"That's ridiculous." Taylor said coolly. "I was in court that day. There's court minutes to prove it."

"Ah... BUT WHICH DAY WAS IT?" Mason said. Taylor sighed in disinterest and looked towards the judge
Taylor gulped. "The... day he said.. um..." (NOTE: Edited to make Taylor in character)
"Mr. Taylor," said the Judge, "neither Mr. Mason or Mr. Rodgers specified a certain day, so... which day was it?"
"Your honor, I must insist that this questioning be blocked immediately; it has absolutely no bearing on this case and is ultimately meaningless" Taylor said to the judge.
"Quite Frankly I agree with you Mr. Taylor; but mainly for the sake of proving Mr. Rodgers is mistaken, please clarify which days you were at court" The Judge asked.

"Every day. The only day this week I haven't had a case was Saturday. And even then I have an alibi: my wife and I went down to the bay for some sea breeze."

"But it was not this week," said Rodgers. "It was last week, and at 8 o'clock in the evening."
"Your honor; please order Mr. Rodgers to cease these accusations at once, he is clearly mistaken" Taylor insisted
"I will in just a moment Mr. Taylor. But since some people in the gallery seem to have their doubts, it would be helpful if you reassured them otherwise; were you out at 8 o'clock any time last week?" asked the judge.

"No, ask my wife. Every day, promptly at 6:30, I arrive home for dinner, and I don't go out for the rest of the night."

"Well, I suppose the more I think about it... the person I saw WAS Mr. Mason after all" Rodgers admitted
"This is absurd! I've never heard such a thing be accused against me!" Mason declared
Gunnarson was getting a whisper from Hartley, who had stepped out for a moment to get some news, then Gunnarson spoke up himself "that's awfully interesting Mr Mason... since I just received word that the man who attempted to steal the documents last night was your brother!" Gunnarson declared.
"and Mr Taylor's alibi is solid, so I refuse to hear any more accusations against him". The Judge declared
"Thank you, your honor" Taylor replied.

"My brother always was a bad one," said Mason. "But I assure you, I am innocent."
"Then how do you account for... THIS!"

"A note that was found in your brother's pocket" Gunnarson began:
George-
I need you to break into my office tonight and steal a box of documents- you'll know it when you see it. Without it, Gunnarson is doomed. -Terry
"Hold on! Hold on! I cannot allow these proceedings to continue until we get two things straightened out. First- after giving it a great deal of thought, Taylor looks nothing like Mason, so where did that accusation even come from? And two- Mason looks nothing like Gunnarson, the bandaged man looks nothing like Gunnarson, so who shot Mr. Orwell? I cannot allow this case to proceed like this; if these facts aren't straightened out by the end of the day, I am declaring a mistrial" The judge said sternly.
Gunnarson suddenly looked nervous; a mistrial meant that the case effectively never happened, and Taylor had every bit of power to take him to court again.

"Your honor," I said. "I know this is completely crazy and not usual in normal court circumstances, but I would like to speak. I think I can clear this all up for you..."

"Who are you?" The judge asked.
"James Hartley; I am a personal friend and associate of Mr. Gunnarson and have been investigating this crime myself, and I feel that I have some information that will clear all this up" I said.
"Your honor, you know how court cases work! He can't speak unless called as a witness, and we aren't done here yet" Mr. Mason pointed out.

The judge pondered. "You say you have information and can clear this case up?"
"I have."
"Hmm..."

"All right, you have one chance. But if you cannot prove what you say, then I will have you thrown in jail for contempt of court" the judge warned.
Hartley gulped as he stood in the center of the courtroom.
"Well, I suppose what we have here is one complicated mess of a story, so I will start how any good story should start- from the beginning" Hartley declared.
"This whole mess, according to the evidence, started about two weeks ago..."

"Two weeks ago, a new tenant moved into the building where Adolf Gunnarson and Mr. Rodgers live."

"I didn't mean the one that Mr. Rodgers mentioned... a DIFFERENT man moved in. Yes, there was a strange man who moved in about a month ago, but as it turns out, he is actually of some, but very little, importance to this whole case..."

"Then what about all these papers that were found, with the schematics and planning and other notes that are clearly indicative of the case at hand?" The judge pointed out
"I'm getting to that. So two weeks ago, a neighbor moved in- into one of the three supposedly empty apartments" Hartley began.
"And?" The judge asked
"Once he moved in..."

Who?" the judge asked.
"It was a military case; classified unfortunately. Anyway, the bandaged neighbor had been blackmailed into doing this, so that the actual murderer could take action" Hartley explained.
"So this second neighbor... is he the murderer?" The judge asked.
