In this game, we each get to be Star Trek characters (from the Original Series, not the spin-offs like 'The Next Generation' and such).
I'll be Scotty.

"Who will I be?" Frank asked. Just then, he was given a red shirt.
"Nope. No way, not becoming one of those guys". Frank said as he walked away.
(This might be hard for those of us that don't know Star Trek; I've only seen one episode)

I'm going to tell you all a story.
A redshirt and a Stormtrooper meet on a corridor of a ship. The Stormtrooper misses every shot, but the redshirt dies anyways

-Rebooting this, only better-
Captain's log, stardate 70586.3
I, Captain Tiberius Octavian Zeno, have been assigned captaincy of the USS Golem, a Nebula-class starship with a crew of 863. We are currently en route to Starbase 457 to pick up our senior officers, Head of Engineering Lieutenant Commander "TGC" and Chief Medical Officer Wellsworth. The other senior officers, first Officer Commander Frank "The Trivia Man", second officer Lieutenant Commander David D'Levin XI, and Head of Security and Tactical Station Operater Tug, are already aboard.

Frank was looking out the window, then checked his watch. The second officer came up to him. "All right; your watch is up; I'll take over now" D'Levin said.
"Thanks; Everything is quiet right now, but don't let that fool you" Frank warned as he stepped off the bridge. In addition to being first officer, he was the liaison between the bridge and the science division, so he went down to the lab to check what the "eggheads" downstairs were doing.
The Chief science officer, William Brenton, welcomed him.
"Ah, good day Frank; what brings you down here?" Brenton asked.
"Just checking in... and about that "problem" you were saying..." Frank asked.
"Aye... best come into my quarters, I don't want to upset anyone else." He said as the two stepped into a side room.
Back on the Bridge, the captain sat in his chair as he looked forward. "Space... this truly is the final frontier..." he said to himself

*Fade to black*
Space, the final frontier of man. These are the voyages of the Starship Golem. It's mission - to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Lieutenant Commander D'Levin and some random ensign (let's say "Rebecca Jepson", were at the helm, while Tug stood at tactical and Captain Zeno sat in the command seat. "Ensign, plot a course for Starbase 457, warp 5." "Course laid in." "Engage Warp Drive." "We will arrive at the Starbase in 6 hours, sir." "Excellent. D'levin, you have the bridge. I'll be in Seven Forward if you need me." (In TNG, Ten Forward is sort of a restaurant/bar. On this ship, I guess it's on a different deck ) Down in the lab, Brenton and Frank were looking at a screen.

"How long has it been since we left earth?" the science officer asked.
"About... 4 months in our time, give or take. We left the Solar system about a week into the journey, and once we reached open space we picked up much speed" Frank said.
"Well, if we run into an Earth like planet, we must touch down as soon as we are close. The soil we have which grows our food... it can only be reused so much. We will need to find a way to replenish it, or new soil all together"
"How long does this particular lot of soil have?" Frank asked.
"If we stretch it out right... 8 months. 10, if we are lucky" the chief science officer sighed.
"All right; I will make sure we keep finding habitable plants a priority" Frank said as he left the room
(NOTE: Again, not familiar with star trek, but I need a sub-plot for first officer Frank that motivates him for his goal: finding earthlike planets)

(Star Trek ships are too big to land on planets (people usually use shuttlecraft or "beam down" on a transporter), they have "replicators" that make food somehow magically (it's lame, but whatevs), and they can traverse a solar system in under an hour, even travel light-years in a few hours, but finding earth-like planets ("M-class", they're called) is still a major goal of theirs.)
Back on the bridge, an alarm sounded.
"There's another ship approaching, sir. I'm not sure what kind."

(Well, yea, I meant they beam down to planets. But don't worry, I will try and salvage this so I don't have to delete my posts)
Frank was talking to the science officer, because something occurred to him. "But, the replicators..." Frank began.
"Exactly; they are fueled by organic matter, which comes from plants that we grow in these soil plots. But the soil can only be used so much, and that is where the issue lies" the science officer explained.
"I see. And the engines? I heard we are supposed to be able to travel light years in a matter of hours" Frank asked.
"Golem is a new ship; teething problems you know. Have had to take things carefully and work our way up, only way to be sure of safety" Brenton explained.
"Fair point. We lose these engines it's game over' Frank said. Then his communicator went off. "Yes?"
"Frank, get on the bridge" a voice said.
"Bloody hell; all right, I'll be back" Frank said as he went topside.
"What is it sir? D'Levin took my watch" Frank said as he walked onto the bridge.

"There's some ship outside. It doesn't look like it belongs to any species we know of."
"Open a hailing frequency and get the captain up here. Shields up just in case." Frank ordered.
(A "hailing frequency" is basically just radio between two ships. I have no idea how the shields work, it's like a force field I guess.)

Frank went to the council and pressed some buttons. "all right; all yours captain" Frank said as he signaled that the frequency was ready

Zeno arrived and began transmitting. "Unidentified vessel, this is Captain Zeno of the Federation Starship Golem. Please identify yourself."
The other ship responded, and everyone on the bridge was surprised at what came up on the viewscreen.

It seemed to be some sort of cross between a lizard and an octopus... in a humanoid form, because for some reason all aliens have humainoid bodies.
"Identify yourself now" the captain replied.
"Sir, I think the odds are pretty low they know English" Frank pointed out.

"We have a universal translator. Odds are, it can decipher their language." Zeno reminded.
"We are the Crovanians. I am Captain Crobas. Why are you in our territory?" The lead alien enquired.

"I hope you will forgive us... we are on a cartography mission. From our perspective, this area of space in uncharted, and we are to scout and explore the greater regions of space. We had no idea this area of space was occupied territory" Captain Zeno explained.

"Since you our in our territory, we claim you as ours, according to our customs. Prepare to be boarded."
"Shields up, red alert!" The captain yelled.

"Defensive mode, prepare the weapons!" The captain ordered as the enemy ship closed in.
The enemy ship closed in, and Captain Zeno sounded a warning: "if you come within a certain distance to our ship, we WILL take whatever measures necessary to protect those on board" he warned.
