History tells us that the age of Vikings ended in 1066, when Harold Hadrada fell at the battle of Stamford Bridge.
This is only a partial truth. For you see, the early generations of Colormen found themselves against the last vestiges of these legendary warriors. This is part of that story.
.........
1103
The Colormen observed, hidden within the forests, as a half dozen longships came ashore and the warriors disembarked. They could not believe what they were observing.
"Vikings?! Impossible! They have not been seen in nearly 40 years... not since Hadrada fell" Man In Gold observed.
"Something is not right here... listen and see what they say" Man In Blue observed.
"This is not the town! We cannot pillage a forest!" One warrior said.
"Patience my brave warriors! We shall go Viking soon enough! But this is a new land, and we must ensure our victory is total! Come, first we scout, then, we pillage!" The leader said to the cheers of his warriors.
"we will not allow that!" Man In Blue said as the Colormen made themselves known.
"How did you know we are here!?" The leader shouted as the warriors took battle stances.
"We are the Colormen of Sodor; it's sworn protectors who will fight to protect its land and people. And who might I ask are you? Last I checked, you Vikings ceased to be when Hadrada fell..." Man in Black said
"Do not insult the great king! Before you are the Warriors of Odin; the last true warriors in all the world!" He declared to the cheers of his followers.
"What?"
"You thought the Vikings were gone? We were just waiting for the right moment to make our comeback; and the world will know our presence when we take over your pathetic land and take everything for our own" the leader declared.
"that will never happen" Man in Blue said sternly, as he prepared his blade.
"Attack!" The Viking leader called as the warriors charged.
......
They never stood a chance. Despite outnumbering the Colormen 4 to one, they did not anticipate anything like these mages. It took only half an hour for 1/3 of the invaders to be killed, and many more wounded. The leader found himself restrained by an unknown force.
"Whst is this?! This is impossible!" He cried.
"Return to your land and never return; Sodor will not fall to Vikings... ever" Man In Red said sternly.
The remaining Vikings retreated and left on their longships; only 4 ended up leaving, the other two left due to lack of manpower.
The Colormen history with Vikings was brief, but notable. Between 1103 and 1108 there were 50 recorded Viking attacks stopped by the Colormen... all of these forces were of the Warriors of Odin. Before each battle, the Colormen would offer peace; a trade of goods in exchange for no attack. The Vikings responded with a hail of javelins or arrows.
1109 only saw two attacks that year. No Vikings appeared from 1110 to 1112. The last recorders viking invasion was in 1113; after this invasion the Warriors of Odin never returned.
Although there is evidence that one encounter in 1109 was not the Warriors; it has not been fully confirmed.
To this day, no one knows who the Warriors of Odin were, or where they made home. All that is known is that they sought to destroy and pillage Sodor, and that more than likely, the invasions ceased when, after so many failed invasions and lost warriors, the kingdom, or village, or what ever their society was called, collapsed. Thus, the end of the Warriors of Odin is regarded as the second ending to the age of Vikings.
