As Gunnarson interviewed the driver, I waited in the main room, waiting for something to do. I was not long in waiting. A constable burst into the room with urgent news.
"Gent, there's been another breakout!"
"What? Who escaped this time?"
"An entire prison in Liverpool was emptied of prisoners overnight. It was a temporary overnight holding prison for transport between two maximum-security prisons. The only prisoners there were these ones." He handed over a list of names.
"Ruocco, Fowler, Bawdekar, Knowles, Poma, Cambria, Palepu, Dexter, Brady, Wilcox... My god, it's Blade's gang!" Gent said. "Who broke them out?"
"An eyewitness claims he saw men by the name of Müller, Friend, McKibbin, and Kross- all known associates of Blade- in town the day before the escape."
"I'd devote all my men to bringing Blade to justice, but we've got bigger fish to fry what with the Drugg case... unless there's a connection!"

I had only just left the interview room to give Gunnarson some space to work and this was what happened... were ALL the old faces coming back?"
......
At Broadmoor hospital, a man was paying a visit.
"I'm here to see an old friend; it has been a while and I think it is time we catch up with one another" he explained.
He was escorted to a room, then asked to be left alone, leaving some cash with the people in the vicinity.
He entered the room, in it was a bald woman just sitting on her bed.
"Elvira Revinev?" he asked.
"What do you want?" She grumbled. The man drew out a knife, "how would you like to be set free?" he asked.
A few minutes later, the man left the cell and simply walked out the front door. "She was rather tired and asked me to leave; maybe next time" he said as he continued to leave.
An orderly came by a while later, "Ms. Revinev, I have your meal ready... OH MY GOD!!!"
Elvira Revinev lay dead on her bed; her throat slashed open and a shocked expression frozen on her face.
The man went to a payphone. "It's done boss; but why?" he asked, confused.
"Call it a gut feeling, but I think with news of Drugg resurfacing, Blade may want some payback. So it was best to ensure one tool they could have used became useless" the voice said.
"All right, I understand. How's Drugg doing?" He asked.
"Still unconscious; now get back to base before someone sees you" he ordered.
"Yes sir" the man said as he hung up. The last thing he did was take the bloody knife and toss it into the Thames River nearby.
"Good luck finding that, Detective" the man quipped before returning to base.
......
Back at Scotland Yard, Gunnarson was still interviewing the driver

"Well my friend, I sometimes have... let us say, other ways at getting at the truth. I do believe they may have wanted to kill you, but I am not sure."
-----------
Meanwhile, in a tavern near Glasgow, a man in an overcoat was sitting at a bar. His hat was down low and his face was not visible. He looked something like a P.I. of old days.
He sipped his beer, waiting.
Finally a man walked in.
"You're late," the man said in a low voice. It sounded young but nonetheless gruff.
"I'm sorry."
"Well, no need to worry. Do you have the locations?"
"I do. He's over in England now. I believe with that Swede."
"Good. I know just where to look then. Thanks for the information." The man got up, paid for his drink, and left.
"Soon, I will have you in my grap," he said to himself as he looked out at the bleak town, as rain poured down. "I will have you... Hartley..."

Meanwhile...

In a truck, the broken out members of Blade's gang were sitting in the back as Muller and Friend drove them as fast as they could to get back to base.
"You know... he's got some nerve" Cambria grumbled. "If we mattered so much to him, why did it take four YEARS to get us out? While Blade was off doing whatever he wanted, the rest of us were locked up like rats in a cage" he muttered.
"Hey! It was no picnic for us either!" Kross argued. "Thanks to that damn doctor's Nazi connections we were forced to go into hiding; we couldn't even start making moves again until 4 months after the war ended" he pointed out.
"Enough, BOTH of you!" McKibbin shouted.
......
"Is there anything else you need to ask me?" The driver asked Gunnarson.

"None that I can think of. Thank you for your information."
.....
At this point, I came back to tell Gunnarson the news about Blade's gang.

"Gunnarson! There's been a breakout! Blade's gang is out free again!" I exclaimed.
"What? But they were in a secure facility!" Gunnarson said, shocked.
"They were being transferred; someone must have broke them out where they were being held overnight" I explained.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!" We heard a scream; it was Gent.
"thank you for your time sir" Was all Gunnarson said to the driver before running to Gent; he was still on the phone.
"Gent, what is it?" Gunnarson asked.
"I don't know how many more developments I can take Gunnarson... I just found out Elvira Revinev was murdered" Gent explained, now shaking.

"Gracious gravy goodness monstrosities!" Gunnarson exclaimed.
Gent and I looked at him with an amused face.
"Oh... sorry. During World War II I began to swear but I'm trying to tone it down."
"Ah."

"I'm sending Detective Morris to handle this one. What were you able to find out from the driver?" Gent asked.
"A few things; the first of note is..."

"His tire was punctured shortly after dropping the men off."
"And that is relevant because...?"

"It indicates they wanted to kill him; perhaps to ensure no witnesses" Gunnarson concluded.
"I see; what else is there I should know?" Gent asked.

"The warehouse was brown."
"So?"
"Just a mere observation."
"Ah."
"Final thing: none of them had fish tattoos on their ankles."
"So they weren't any of Henry the Iceberg's men. I see."

"We already knew they were connected to One-Eyed Jack, so that gives this circumstantial evidence teeth" Gunnarson pointed out.
"So... where to next Gunnarson?" Gent asked.
"I guess I'm off to Alderman Road" Gunnarson said as he began making his way to the exit. "Got to find that apartment building the driver talked about" he explained.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of London, a stranger had appeared. The Man was walking along, his face was not visible. People whispered to their neighbors about him, but he didn't care.
Soon it would be just a matter of time before he eliminated Hartley...

At Alderman Road...

Gunnarson began walking down it, keeping in mind what the driver had said.
"There's a few apartment buildings down this street...but which one could the right one be?" he thought to himself as he kept walking. He had already passed a couple, and could see three more in front of him; this was not going to be easy.

The street curved. There we saw at the end of it an old building. It was brown and looked abandoned. Truth be told, whether it was a warehouse or an apartment building, even Gunnarson couldn't tell.
"Ah!" said Gunnarson.
"I suppose this is it?" I asked.
"We shall soon see..." Gunnarson knocked. No one answered. Gunnarson put his ear to the door. An expression of horror came upon him. "Hartley, kick down the door."
"Wait, what?"
"Just do it!"
Bracing myself, I ran into the door. It budged but only a little. I did it again. I didn't get much further. "Alright, that's it!" I yelled. I ran back a few yards, then ran at the door with all my might. It broke. "Down, damn door!" I said in the heat of the moment, and kicked it.
Apparently I don't know my own strengths or weaknesses. In kicking the door I broke it, but also hurt my leg!
But I wasn't worried about it then.
For there, inside the warehouse, was the most horrific thing I shall ever see.
Corpses.
Nothing but corpses.
Blood and bone was everywhere.
And in the middle of it all was a woman, tied up and unconscious.

"What the hell is this place?" I said in shock.
"Not sure; but it looks like we finally have some closure on a lot of missing persons cases" Gunnarson observed. Then he looked over and saw the woman.
"I'll go find a phone booth; I've got to call Scotland Yard" I said as I began to head for the door.

"No," said Gunnarson. "You stay here and I'll go. I have Gent's private office number, and you don't so I think it would be best if you tried to revive her."
Gunnarson left.
I knelt down and looked at her. She was a young woman of about 27, slender, with black hair (though depending on the light it could appear to be blue). She was unharmed but the clothes she was wearing would appear scandalous in our times.
I looked around. There was a faucet in the room. I got some water (trying to avoid the blood and gore) and splashed it on her face. After some time she seemed to awake.
"Where... where am I?"
"Inside a terrible dungeon with your prince charming, my sleeping beauty," I said.
I immediately regretted those words, but she didn't seem to care.
Well, truth be told she didn't seem to be fully awake either.

Gunnarson phoned Gent, who at first did not take it seriously.
"Are you kidding me Gunnarson? One-Eyed Jack was a money lender and broker; why would his associates come to some sort of... killing factory?" Gent replied; truth be told, he was probably frazzled from everything that was happening in such a small time frame.

"Just come Gent, I'm not making this up. I even have Hartley and another witness to testify."
"Another witness?"
"Yes, found with the gore."
"Alright, I'll come."
-----------
Gent slumped forward and hit his head on his desk.
"Christ, what the hell is going on here...?!"

"Just send a detective to investigate Gent; you know, even though you are Chief of Police you have no obligation to go to any crime scenes" Walton pointed out as he was typing up a report.
