"I'd rather see a real hanging," said a voice. "The Bronze Mage! You came! That's wonderful!" "Yeah, yeah, whatever," said the Bronze Mage, sitting down in an empty chair.

"Anyway, on with the show!"" Man in blue quickly said.
"Today, we're going to talk about arguably the most used trope in our story: Lampshade Hanging!" Frank said, as the words appeared on screen.

"So, who wants to introduce the concept?" Tug asked.

"I can!" said Diesel 11. "Oh wait... I don't even know what that is."

"I will do it then" Toz said as he went to the screen. "In general, Lampshade hanging refers to when there is a ridiculous or improbable plot point, so you essentially call attention to it, say that you are aware of it, but tell everyone to just go along with it" Toz began.
"Is that so?" Frank asked.

"You're the one that came up with the episode ideas, and you don't even know?!"

"What a perfect example of lampshading! Well done, Diesel 11!" *thunderous studio applause*
"Did you just... lampshade my lampshading?"
"Then you lampshaded my lampshading of your lampshading!" *laughtrack*

"Yes folks, that's exactly it; you see, lampshade hanging is mainly used for comic effect, calling attention to flaws in something" Frank explained.
"So, why don't we take a look at some examples of lampshade hanging" Man In Blue said.

(I honestly didn't realize that I did some lampshade hanging there... ) "Let's head to the phones now and see what everyone's favorite lampshade hanging moment in 3WSR is," said Diesel 11. "Hello! You're on the air!"

"My favorite lampshading moment has got to be whenever a character asks a question that concerns a hole in the plot, but someone quickly fires back with "Don't ask questions you aren't prepared to handle the answer to... gets me every time" he said

Toz then took over. "But sometimes we literally lampshade. Indeed, on more than one occasion, when some points out something wrong with a plot, a physical lampshade will fall on said character's head" he explained.

"In fact, in a most recent development, check out this scene" Frank said as attention shifted to the monitor
"Hey wait a second, this whole thing takes place in a Thomas and friends universe, so why hasn't HIT entertainment sued us?"
Just then, lampshades fell on all the writers.
(back to the set, studio applause)
"Yep, a good gag for a quick laugh. And a great way to keep plot holes in check" Toz quipped
(Seems this one wasn't as popular; should we go to the next episode guys?"

Then Toz turned to the audience, "So here's a question- why do we lampshade? Why go through the bother of pointing out these plot holes and inconsistencies, or ridiculousness? Simple, it is because..."

"Uh... Should we just go to the next episode?" Frank asked

"No," said Diesel 11, "just explain what lampshade hanging is so that I actually understand the concept and won't make a fool of myself." "You're already a fool," said Tug. "Oh shut up!"

"So to go back to Toz's question" Frank began. "Why do we do it? Simple- it's to maintain your suspense of disbelief when watching these ridiculous stories unfold. Let's be honest, even the most amazing of stories have some underlying flaw to them, and by calling attention to them and addressing them, that is how they stay amazing- knowing they are flawed but explaining that its ok and to just go with it. That is the point of lampshade hanging" Frank said, as the audience applauded.

"Yes, but what the hell is lampshade hanging?!" Diesel 11 exclaimed. "Hey, keep it kid-friendly!" Frank said. "F**k it, what's lampshade hanging?!" *audience laughs* *Diesel 11 jumps on the man nearest him and beats the sh*t out of him* "Whoops, sorry, Mr. Erdagovern." "T-ha-t'-s o-k-ay...-...-.-"

Suddenly, D-11 is hit with a tranquilizer dart, falls asleep and is carried off stage by background crew.
"Sorry about that folks, but we're rated for everyone so we had to do that to avoid getting cancelled. And anyway, if he was paying attention, he would have seen that we already defined it" Toz pointed out.

Suddenly, from nowhere, 13 terrorists took over the building. "What the heck?!" cried Toz. One of the terrorists sat down in Diesel 11's chair. "Hello," he said. "Uh..." said Frank, "Um... this is, er.. Hans Gruber. Hello... Hans." "Hello, Mr. Trivia Man. I'm here to discuss these 'tropes' of yours." "Uh... cool. Let's move on then, shall we?"

Then at last the mood went back to normal "and wasn't that a great entrance folks! Big thanks to the Mellville school of acting for supplying us with the extras" Frank said as the audience applauded and the "terrorists" extras removed their masks, and waved as they walked off set.
"Looks like we've got a substitute for the time being. Anyways, any last words on lampshade hanging anyone?"
