The Prism's power is not compatible with those who have evil in their heart. This is a cautionary tale from the early days of the Colormen to those who try selfishly take The Prism's powers for themselves. Only those with good in their hearts are selected to wield the incredible power within, and this is what happens when one tries to take it by force.
......
It had been about 4 years since The Prism had been found, and the first generation of Colormen now numbered about 60 members. The Prism was currently on display at King Godred's Castle, for the sake of ease when new names were revealed. But one man was not selected.
A knight for many years, Sir Adrian was certain that a man such as himself was more than worthy of wielding such incredible power. And yet, four years in, and he was never chosen to wield the powers. He was quite frustrated.
"I have defended Sodor from many Viking invasions, I have more passion to defend this island than any other man, and I have the Kings' respect. Why are these... peasants being chosen over me!?" He fumed one day.
"The people don't choose to wield the powers... the powers choose the people who wield them" the king informed.
"Nonsense! If anyone is worthy of these powers, it is ME!" he said. He then set off to find the Colormen.
He found the Man In Blue and Man In Gold with The Prism. He came over to them.
"Why have I not been chosen to wield the power of The Prism? I am as good as any man." He said to the two.
"You may be a good man, but being good is not enough. You need the right values" Man In Gold explained.
"Colormen are humble, both in origin and in nature. You are prideful in nature, and born into privilege. You know not the struggle of the common man, and you never will." Man In Blue continued.
"I want to defend Sodor, that should be all that matters!" He screamed before walking over to the Prism.
"Listen here, enchanted stone from beyond, I am Sir Adrian, the greatest Knight who ever protected Sodor. No man is more qualified to be a Colorman than myself, and I demand the powers you hold!" he screamed, raising his hand towards The Prism. Nothing happened.
"I am warning you, reveal my powers to me, or I shall make you give them to me!" Sir Adrian screamed. Nothing happened.
"This is your last chance! Give me my powers or I will take them by force!" Sir Adrian said, now grabbing the Prism.
Man In Gold was about to come after him with his spear, but Man In Blue stopped him.
"No... this is between him and the Prism." he said. Man In Gold relented and stayed back.
Sir Adrian grabbed The Prism... which suddenly felt like a hot iron in his hands, forcing him to release it.
"GahhhH!!!! What was that?" He screamed angrily.
"Me. You may act good, and say you fight for good, but I can see you for who you really are" a disembodied voice said.
"Who are you!?" Sir Adrian screamed.
"I am the Spirit within. You are a self-absorbed, arrogant man who thinks highly of himself. You claim to fight for this island, but that is merely a thinly veiled reason to hide your true goals: fame...glory...wealth. And in your quest for these, you have forgotten what is truly important" the voice continued.
"You.... you lie! I fight for Sodor!" Sir Adrian screamed.
"You say Sodor... but I can hear see what is in your heart, and it is full of greed... greed for power, fame, glory. Glory is not something that is desired... glory is something that is earned. And what use is power if you don't know how to handle it. It is clear to me.... you are not good of heart, and you are not worthy of this power!" The voice said.
"Enough!! GIVE ME THE POWER!" And Sir Adrian raised his sword. In a swift overhead chopping motion, he went to strike at The Prism! But then, there was a blinding light and a scream.
When the light subsided, to the amazement of Man In Blue and Man In Gold, there was Sir Adrian, now a statue of solid stone. Man In Yellow and Man In Silver came running in.
"We heard a noise, what happened?" Man In Yellow asked.
"Good Lord! Is that Sir Adrian?" Man In Silver asked.
Man In Blue nodded. "He tried to take The Prism's powers, and he paid the price. Perhaps this is something that needed to happen" Man In Blue said as he mused on the situation.
"What do we do about Sir Adrian?" Man In Silver asked.
"Perhaps he can still be of use to us. Let him stand guard over The Prism... he shall serve as a warning to those who selfishly crave The Prism's power." Man In Blue told the others.
Days later, The Prism was once again on display, awaiting the next Colormen to receive his powers. Others come to simply see the Prism and admire it, but just behind The Prism, they saw a stone statue of a Knight, with his Sword raised towards the people. At the statue's feet, there is the inscription "Sir Adrian The Dark One; he tried to force the powers upon himself, and paid the price."
How's that guys?
