frankthetriviaman and I have worked hard over the past few months on the Numbered Diesels. We've put a lot of effort into them, and so it's hard to figure out which one is the best. However, I've endeavored to take 10 of the 22 diesels we have, and rank them. The Numbered Diesels change often, so this list might be different in a few months, but for now, these are
The Top 10 Numbered Diesels
10. Diesel 20
Diesel 20 was the last of Walkins's diesels, and came about at a time when he had started to switch interests from APS to railway infrastructure. However, he really went out with a bang. Diesel 20 was created only for use during the Christmas season to deliver gifts to children to a certain children's hospital. Unfortunately, he was later stolen, but when he's found again, he will certainly have quite a tale to tell.

9. Diesel 17
The worst Numbered Diesels accident ever happened through Diesel 17, and the incident was what the 'anti-Numbered Diesels' people needed. Diesel 17, a special diesel rail-car, became a runaway after being struck by lightning, and plunged into a river after jumping an open drawbridge. While most people were able to get off in time, two people were killed and another two were missing, it gave the diesels a very bad name.
8. Diesel 6
Perhaps the best of the diesels, Diesel 6 was the only one to stay in service after the British Government shut the diesels down. He had a foam cannon on his roof for fire-fighting, and did such excellent work that they allowed him to stay on the rails. He was also the only one to require a driver, as he couldn't see where he was aiming.
7. Diesel 13
If there's one diesel you can really feel for, it's Diesel 13. He was the last of the Numbered Diesels to have a claw, but everything went wrong for him, and he was deemed a jinx and forgotten about. Years later, the jinx had remained; he sent Diesel 12 off the rails to near destruction when the found him. While his engine still acts up from time to time, most agree that the jinx has finally left him.
6. Diesel 5000 XL
The only diesel created by Diesel 11 (the person) himself, Diesel 5000 XL is 10 times worse than Diesel 10 was. While he may not be totally evil, he's definitely not someone you want to cross; he's got a bad temper, and with five claws, is definitely something you should stay away from. Indeed, he's one of the reasons that people are using to give examples of why the Numbered Diesels shouldn't re-enter service.
5. Diesel 0
Without Diesel 0, there never would have been the Numbered Diesels. While Walkins has become synonymous with the APS, it was a German engineer named Heinrich Bauer that came up with it. His one and only engine, Diesel 0, wasn't as good as the engines to follow (mechanically), he was still a huge step in showing what one can do when you put your mind to it.
4. Diesel 12
When Diesel 12 entered 3WSR in the War of the Shards, no one realized what was starting to set up. However, he's proved to become a popular member of the diesels. Despite being nearly destroyed after Diesel 13 sent him flying off the rails, he is still there, ready to lend a helping hand claw.
3. Diesel 1
This proved to be the climax for the Numbered Diesels. There was Diesel 10, Diesel 11, Diesel 12... but when it was discovered the Diesel 1 was around, that's when the Numbered Diesels were finally realized. Diesel 11 (the person) arrived on Sodor, and ended up buying the diesels, and collecting them... if it wasn't for Diesel 1, that might never have happened.
2. Diesel 10
Diesel 10 is the only Numbered Diesels to actually be in Thomas & Friends. When 3WSR was started up again on the new TTTE Wiki Forums, Diesel 10's Reign Arc was the first arc on it. Subsequently, he's still a popular character, and will remain so for a long time.
1. Diesel 11
If it weren't for Scratchpad Wiki, there might never have been the Numbered Diesels. Diesel 11 was created for two non-existing movies created by Scratchpad users, and is depicted with having two claws. He ended up being the very first Numbered Diesel being featured in 3WSR (not counting Diesel 10), and it's through him that we even have the Numbered Diesels. That's why there's no question โ Diesel 11 rightfully deserves to be #1.
