While we are waiting for Chapter five of the Giants book, enjoy this preview to the introduction to the Merfolk book of Chronicles of Elbaf. Since it's place in the order is not yet established, it does not have a number yet.
......
Unlike many of the creatures that shared the world with humans, the merfolk were not inherently evil beings. In fact, they were among the more peaceful of the species, and for the Colormen, it was fairly easy to make peace with them. It is said that working with them was so easy, that it took the Colormen less than a year to make "an official peace" with the four populations of Merfolk spread throughout Sodor.
They got along very well with humans; with rumors persisting that Merfolk had the ability to "swap between tail and legs" and could mate with humans. The mating aspect is true, but the swapping... was never confirmed, by Colormen records anyway.
A few weeks after humanity had effectively declared war on the "mythical" species, Merfolk had been unfortunately drawn into it. Often mistaken for the far more evil sirens, Merfolk were being hunted in a manner similar to whales on the European continent.
Fearful that this would happen to them to, one day representatives from the four Sodor populations requested audience with the Colormen; they met on a Northern beach.
"Our kind are being hunted down like common animals! We try to tell them we are not sirens, but they refuse to listen. Even when we speak of how we assisted by warning sailors of where to steer clear of the sirens, they don't listen. Please, you must help us!" One said.
The Colormen thought it over, and came to a decision. "There is one place where you may be safe. Assemble all Merfolk on this beach tomorrow morning; we may have an idea" The Man In Blue stated.
Indeed, once the sun rose the next morning the four populations of Merfolk assembled on the beach as requested. Man In Gold showed them a star map.
"Some time ago, we helped the giants and a couple other species escape to a safe haven. It is called Elbaf, and if you tell the giants that you were sent by us, then they should be welcoming to you" he explained.
"How would we get there?" A merman asked.
"Follow the stars, like this. If you swim in this direction, you should reach sanctuary in a matter of days" he explained.
The Merfolk thought it over. This was an important decision to make. But they gave a simple reply afterwards.
"all right, we'll give it a go. Thank you for this incredible gift.
What will happen next? Find out in the future, when we return to this on a later day.
