"Positive. Come to think of it; to my understanding, you actually witnessed her death yourself. So I'm sure you of all people can back me up on that" Walters said.
"Is that true mr. Gunnarson?" The judge asked.

"I did, but it happened shortly before the raid, so I wasn't sure. Before it, I did here something I thought two writers were saying - 'I suppose we'll have to kill her...' - when I thought over it, it seemed to me that perhaps they were talking about her, not a character in a book."

"Will you be covering that in your case?"
"Yes I will"
"Return to mr. Walters then."
"So let me ask you, were you there that day, when your sister was killed?" Gunnarson asked.

"Was I where?" "At the scene of the raid." "Coincidentally, yes." "Your honor, I believe it was more than a coincidence. I still believe that this man killed his sister - and I have evidence to support it, too!"
"What?!" cried Taylor, "You actually have evidence?!" "Really?" inquired Taylor. "For once you actually have evidence?" He asked, intrigued.
(NOTE: Taylor is a very "calm under fire" type individual, edited to be more in character)

"It was not easy, but my associates and I did come across something linking Mr Walters to the crime. If your honor will allow, showing Mr Walters this will help with the testimony" Gunnarson proposed.
"Go ahead" the judge said.
Gunnarson went and pulled something out of a briefcase. "As you can see, this is a..."

"...bullet. It's the one that shot Mr. Walters's sister. And we were able to link it to... Mr. Walters's gun!" Gunnarson exclaimed. Then he pulled out a report "a respected firearms examiner took a look at this bullet under the microscope and was able to confirm it" he continued.

Mr. Walters, seeing that, quickly spoke. "I don't deny that my gun could have been used to killer my sister... But you must understand, I reported it stolen months ago! I couldn't have done it with a gun I didn't have" he said. "Therefore I could not have done it." Walters continued.
But Gunnarson was not phased. "Then please be so kind as to explain..."

"Your fingerprints on the bullet?" "What? My fingerprints are still on there? I thought that surely they'd go away once I'd shot her... er... I mean, if SOMEONE shot her." The judge wasn't phased. "I think I understand. Mr. Walters, I charge you with the murder of your sister." "What? No, I... CURSES!" And he leaped up, jumped over the railing, grabbed for Gunnarson's throat. He was forced back, and the judge ordered him to be locked up. Gunnarson then addressed the courtroom. "Walters's prints were actually NOT on this gun." "What?!" some members of the jury gasped. "Yes, but I put that in to trap him. If he was innocent, nothing, but if he was guilty... and you see what happened." Gunnarson grinned. But Taylor was quick to point out the judge's legal error.
"Objection your honor! You have overstepped your power; as a judge you do not have the power to press charges, only cite someone for them. Also, that question can't be considered valid since Gunnarson did not cite actual evidence." Taylor pointed out.
"Oh, I... sustained. My apologies everyone, that was very unprofessional of me and I should have known better." In order to save face, Mr. Walters was released on a technicality and his testimony was considered finished.

"though I do feel I should explain my ruse. You see, it is extremely rare for fingerprints to be on bullets and guns. But I knew just how to get the reaction the court needed out of him." Gunnarson explained. "Though I do apologize, I did not realize that wasn't allowed" Gunnarson added.
It was still Taylor presenting his case though, so it was his turn to speak.
"Well, at the very least I can praise Gunnarson for trying to get him with actual evidence. Though we cannot prove the raid was staged, I digress. Anyway, next I call to the stand the true murderer of Farley; Mr. Franz Gelb" Taylor explained.
Gelb was brought in in handcuffs and took to the stand.
He basically said what he said to Poirot, finishing with "...and when I looked back, he was still alive."
"But he let Farley for a slow, painful death from bleeding out! It is impossible for Elvira to have killed Farley. No further questions."
"Would you like to cross examine, Gunnarson?"

"Yes, but first, hear me out - a man has just shot someone in self-defense. That's enough to scare anyone. I urge the court to go easy on Mr. Gelb - if indeed his shot was the one that killed him." Gunnarson explained "Thank you, Mr. Gunnarson. He has already been sentenced though, so there is nothing that can be done at this point. Now please cross examine." The judge said.

"Now Mr. Gelb; after you shot Mr Farley, I want you to think; was there anything else you witnessed happen? Perhaps another figure slip into the alley as you ran away?" Gunnarson asked

"Yes, there was. As I said before to you, I saw Elvira. I thought she might have killed Farley shortly after I shot him. As a trained assassin, it wouldn't be hard for her to do. I had feelings for her, so I was willing to take the blame, but she didn't give a damn about me. She only used me for her purpose." "I see."

"Not well enough," Gelb muttered. "What do you mean by that?"

"We had some chance encounters and I fell for her; didn't realize who she really was till this murder."
"Objection your honor. Just because he saw someone run into to alley as he ran away, that doesn't prove anything. For all we know, that person ran into the alley to help the man." Taylor argued.
"That is a fair point; Gunnarson, do you have any evidence connecting this Elvira to the murder?" The judge said.
"Let me check the evidence my associates and I recovered" he said. He began digging through the things to see what would help now..

...a copy of the medical examiner's report." Gunnarson said.
"From the autopsy?" The judge asked.
"Correct. Now at first glance, it does look like Gelb's gunshot is the killing wound. But if you look here, something does not quite add up..."

Apparently, there is one entrance wound; but there are two exit wounds." Gunnarson explained.
"The bullet could have fragmented" Gelb pointed out.
"And yet, two bullets of different caliber a were found at the scene" Gunnarson explained.
