Over the past few days, there has been a new blog every day. On Friday it was The International Engines, yesterday it was docwillie 's excellently-written essay 'On Duke', and today, probably the best-written one that I have made - at the very least my favorite one that I've written - Hugo and the Schienenzeppelin. If anyone wants to contribute anything, no matter how small, I'd love to host it on the blog for you!

3WSR: What are we?
It's not a secret that this game has become rather... interesting over the past couple years. What once was a Thomas fanfiction turned into... well, this. In fact, the Thomas connection is so weak now, that it's practically nonexistent. So where do we go from here?
Recently, the writers got together, and considered doing something drastic... rebooting the 3WSR universe.
What does this entail? Well, everything original will become its own universe; separated and distinct from Thomas. The history will be kept intact, but anything pertaining to TTTE will be cut, and adapted. There may still be some nods to our original source of inspiration, but 3WSR will become its own thing, like the Order of the Stick webcomic.
Everything pertaining to Thomas, the Tugs, and the numbered diesels will be their own universe. We could still do things there, but now he will have a proper chance to shine, like the original game, way back when.
But what about 3WSR itself? Perhaps it's time to rethink what this forum is about, since the focus has clearly changed in recent months.
In my next post, I will elaborate further on this idea... the restructuring of 3WSR.

3WSR- What's in a name?
3WSR is short for Three Word Story Revolution. Three Word Story refers to an internet game which is popular on some forums; the idea is each person participating only contributes three words at a time, with the idea being to form something that sounds reasonably coherent. Three Word Story Revolution goes a step further- instead of three words, the poster puts sentences or paragraphs up at a time; the final result is that a story is told, but it more coherent and developed than three Word story
In an essence, all our main works are based on this principle. So as we move further from our Thomas-based origins and become something more original, where does that leave our name?
We're more than just one game now, and our forum's name should reflect that. 3WSR served its purpose for a long time, but what about now? Our forum is more developed and far bigger now, with several ongoing projects. 3WSR is something only understood by a handful of people. Perhaps we can still use that designation, in the same way radio stations use a small series of letters as a call sign so you know what station you are listening to.
If we want to appeal to more people, we need to be able to advertise ourselves as bring more than just one game. The main game, as fun as it is, is truly understood only by the small handful of writers that have worked on it for more than two years. Therefore, we need to be able to let others know they are welcome to join and take part in the fun. And to do that, we need a name that reflects all our games... not just one.

3WSR- Why is it so hard to find an audience? There's no denying it- for a forum that's been around two years, our community is rather small. So why is it the core five (now four ) stick around but everyone else just... kinda comes and goes? Perhaps it's because our focus is weak. Initially we were Thomas related, and people from those forums came by and checked us out. But as the connection became weaker, it didn't peak their interest as much and they stopped coming by. Perhaps we are looking at this the wrong way. We shouldn't be advertising ourselves as Thomas related... only for people to come here and only see a few, sparse connections. Rather, we should redefine what we truly are. By branding ourselves as a creative writing forum, with a "rebooted" game, we can create an original web story that isn't bound by restrictions set by the Thomas universe. But Thomas won't be forgotten- he, the Tugs and diesels will be in their own universe now, with their own chance to shine properly once again. While it wouldn't be the main focus of the forum, it would remain as a tribute to what started this incredible stotry. Which brings us back to the original point- finding an audience. We do have a rather... unfocused theme around here, as is. If we can find a central theme that ties everything together, we have the potential to start something great... like Order of the Stick. Returning ourselves as a creative writing forum, with several ongoing stories, is bound to peak the interest of not just those who initially started 3WSR, but also anyone out there who likes mystery, sitcoms, medieval fantasy, etc. We have a very nice community and great projects going on around here; and it would be a shame not to share it with others.

Writer's Realm of Stories 3 (referencing that this is technically the third forum the Game has been hosted on). For short, WSR3, or 3WSR if you prefer it that way. Maintains our heritage while still being updated.

3WSR- A New Name
3WSR is something very dear to the core group of writers around here; and yet it is also an inaccurate description of the forum as a whole. If we want the forum to become something better than what it is right now, we need a name that has broader appeal and is easy to understand.
In a previous post I explained what 3WSR means. Now, we need a new name to reflect the forum as a whole. However, Toz feels concerned about a name change; the past two years have made 3WSR synonymous with the forum and it would be a shame to lose it. Therefore, we need a name that can both reflect our past and the forum today.
Therefore, 3WSR will be treated as a "radio callsign" of sorts. My proposal is renaming the forum something to the effect of "3WSR: a Creative Writing Forum" or "Forum for Creative Writing" or something similar.
This is not an easy choice to make; but personally I feel that it is the best choice we can make in order to move forward.

3WSR- In Conclusion
Although our community hasn't really been that big, we are passionate about what we do around here and creative writing is a nice hobby that we all enjoy. But with the loss of one of the five core members, it is clear that in order to survive the long run, we have to rethink 3WSR. We aren't just a single story, we have several going on. We don't just deal with Thomas the tank engine, we have many universes existing at once. I feel that 3WSR can survive the long term; but to do so involves shaking up our current structure and adapting it to welcome new members and embrace what we have really become. Sure, Thomas will always be dear to our hearts... but we can't call it the focus of our forum and we can't call ourselves a Thomas forum. No, we are something new, something different. And it is hard, but it is something we need to embrace.

(Not part of the preceding series; but something important worth discussing) 3WSR- The case for a (soft) reboot Previously, I clarified that Thomas, the Tugs and numbered diesels would become their own universe, and the Colormen, VEC and others would become their own universe. But how to drum up imterest in "the game" is the interesting part. The game has been fun for the past couple years, but in recent months a very real flaw in it has become apparent. The game's current format is, for lack of a.better term, very confusing. Sure, the premise for how to play is very straightforward, but the story is very confusing. This is due in large part to; 1) a big chunk of the game is missing, and after two years it is clear no one wants to rebuild the lost sections. 2) the sheer number of retcons unfired Chekhov's guns 3) the jumping around from post to post across the story 4) random in-jokes that made sense at the time, but whose punchline can be lost a year later 5) the unreadability of the story in its current state In chat a while back, I recall one of my fellow writers mention that he tried to read the story from the "beginning" but was unable to because it was so convoluted. So where do we go from here? My proposal is something like this: You will recall in my previous series of blog posts, I mentioned the webcomic Order of the Stick quite a lot. Well, I see them as a source of inspiration for the story, in a way. And they have been around for well over 10 years. Why? Because they have a format that works. They are a weekly webcomic that comes out regularly, and while at times the story can be confusing, you can still generally follow what is going on because there is an overarching plot connecting the whole story. I see 3WSR as a "written comic" if you will; the only difference is we aren't bound by a posting schedule and no pictures (we're not exactly the best artists ). So how should we restructure for broader appeal? Personally, I would do something akin to this: We go back to the beginning; 1095 to be precise, and tell the story properly, from the beginning. We already have a strong starting point: for some time we have had in mind a Colorfolk novel; to build up their history. However, the project has stalled for a long time, and with everything we have going on, it is unlikely we will resume work on it. Therefore, the best course of action we can take is to take this "beginning material" and use it to start anew; working our way forward in a progression that makes sense. Sure, we could still end up "jumping around from posts to post" but at the same time, the jumping would be linked because we aren't necessarily trying to have so many plot points going on at once. We'll start with just one, and work our way forward along said plot point. We could eventually get another plot point going, or even two, but all the plots would be linked and connected in a way that makes sense; like in order of the Stick where the viewpoint sometimes switches between the protagonists and antagonists every few comics. And just like a comic, every few posts, or perhaps one post at a time, would be a chapter, in the same sense as an issue of a comic. Let me be clear: we are NOT throwing away anything already written. Rather, it will be adapted in time to fit in with this new universe. Namely, removing all Thomas connections and adapting it for something original. That's my view on the matter, now I open this up to you, the readers- what are your thoughts on a reboot?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Recently, former Head Admin of 3WSR TGC tweeted a plan to force the members of the Thomas Creator Collective to quit by harassing them until they "maybe have a mental breakdown". The motivation for this? The people in the creator collective are following company policy and not saying negative things about the brand publicly.
Now, we're not trying to burn any bridges with TGC. He created this forum, and we owe a lot to him. But we simply cannot condone threats of any kind, and we are formally condemning his remarks. 3WSR stands against any form of online harassment. Just because he is our friend doesn't mean we will stand by.
On behalf of this forum, I ask that TGC extend a formal apology for his remarks. This is simply unacceptable.
