"I married into the family. I love Annett, but her brother was a bit... controlling. As the oldest one he felt that they belonged to him, or so it struck me."

"I see. Did you interact more recently; perhaps the week before tonight?" Evans asked.
"As a matter of fact... we did encounter each other at a nearby cafe about two days ago" admitted.
"What happened?"

"Nothing actually. I just told him we'd be coming for Christmas and he said he was happy to hear it."
"I see," said Evans. "Gunnarson, do you have any questions before we continue?"

But then he remembered that Gunnarson was off searching for evidence. "Oh; it seems that Gunnarson finished looking st this room. Gunnarson! Where are you?" Evans call d out.

"In here!" Gunnarson shouted. "My apologies, did you need anything?"
"Yes, did you get all that?"
"Oh yes, I've been listening."
"Right," said Evans, "did you have any other questions for him?"

"I suppose I do have a couple" Gunnarson admitted. He sat down near them. "I will admit that these sound like strange questions Michael; but they are important. First- did you owe money to Wolfgang, or did he owe you money?"
"No; we never really exchanged money" Michael said.
"Did he try and interfere with your relationship with Annett?" Gunnarson asked.
"No; he was controlling, as I said, be he never voiced objections" Michael replied.
"And lastly; did he ever do anything that wronged you that would want you to, say, take justice into your own hands?" Gunnarson asked.
"Not really; we may have not been on the best of terms, but I never necessarily hated him enough to want to... well, you know" he finished. This satisfied Gunnarson; the Swede knew that there were only three categories of motive for murder: love, money and revenge. And since Michael was not "emotionally provoked" by any of these questions, he had a feeling that Michael, more than likely, didn't have a motive to kill Wolfgang.
"Any more questions for you?" Gunnarson asked.

"Yes, one last one," said Evans. "Where were you around the time Wolfgang was murdered?"

Downstairs in the drawing room; Wolfgang insisted we didn't go upstairs; let alone to his study where he was killed" Michael explained.
With Michael done; they called Annette

"Yes?" she asked.
"Just a few questions," said Evans as she sat down. "Firstly, where were you when Wolfgang was killed?"

"Down here; as I'm sure you've heard by now we weren't really allowed upstairs during the visit" she explained.
"I see; well how would you describe your relationship with Wolfgang?" Evans asked

"We were never really close as siblings, we were usually doing our separate things. He was a brooding person and not one you liked to get to know."

"I see. Tell me about Wolfgang himself? Was he say... a violent person? A drinker? A gambler?" Evans asked
"Goodness no; he wasn't the best of people but he wasnt one to physically attack others. And other than champagne at the holidays he never really drank. And he described gambling as an abomination beyond words" Annette explained
"Interesting" Evans observed. Then he turned to Gunnarson, "ready to ask your three questions?" He asked

"I have but one question actually... did Wolfgang suffer from any diseases? Specifically ones that could cause premature bodily decay?"

"None that I am aware... he never was one to discuss personal health" Annette explained.
"Aren't you going to ask those questions to discern if she had a motive?" Evans whispered and asked, confused.
"Eventually, but now is not the right time" Gunnarson replied.
"what do you mean?" Evans asked
"look at her; she is still emotionally distraught; we need her to calm down so we know she is thinking clearly" Gunnarson whispered, to which Evans nodded
"Any more questions?" Annette asked

"Not at this moment. I think you leave again," said Gunnarson. "Who remains?" he asked Evans.

"Just Franz, the brother" Evans replied.
"What about Sonya and Carl?" Gunnarson asked.
"Since they are innocent; I know they will tell the truth, but I'd rather not stress them out now" Evans replied.
"Fair point" Gunnarson replied.
Franz came in and sat down, and Gunnarson noticed his demeanor. "He's calmed down; I'll be able to ask my three questions once your done" Gunnarson replied.
"Good; I'll start then" Evans said as he began his line of questioning

"When were you alerted that Wolfgang was killed?" asked Evans.
Franz paused and thought. "Let me see... ah yes..."

"... it was about 3 minutes after Michael had found him dead; I was in the lavatory and didn't hear the news until I had come down the hall"
"I see. Though tell me about your relationship with your brother; how was it?"
"Where do I begin even? I suppose I should start with telling you about..."

"So what was going on between your brother and sister then, if they were not on the best of terms?" Evans asked.
"Well, as an observer, I always noticed that..."
