Jenkins stiffened up like someone just rammed a poker up his butt. "What are you insinuating?" he said, all prissy-like.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Mitch trying to flirt with Lorna. Looked to me like he was striking out. I caught Lorna's eye and pointed at the table in front of me, signaling "drinks, pronto." She looked pretty glad to get away from Mitch.
"Take it easy, Professor," I said. "I just figured if this Gallagher guy was following you, he had a reason. Or thought he did." I remembered my impression of the crazy Irishman in my office. "He didn't strike me as the most stable guy I ever met."
Lorna arrived, snapping her gum as always. "Hiya, Sam," she said. She had this habit of tugging on her blouse, trying to get it to cover her midriff. It was kinda cute, especially since the outfit they made her wear guaranteed that she would never succeed. "What can I getcha?"
