Basically, they don't want any opposition. They aim to be the most powerful evil faction in the world, so they are infiltrating both VEC and SOM in hopes of taking them down. They'll even stoop to allying with good forces to achieve their goals, as they're doing right now, but they're still evil and dangerous.

Höfuðstöðvar is the GOD's main base of operations. It is easily the largest base of any faction, mostly because it is spread out in six locations over about 1000 square miles, connected by a sophisticated underground tunnel system, with subways running through it. The six sections are as follows:
Skíðabrekkur: The only land access to Höfuðstöðvar is through Skíðabrekkur, a ski resort with a hidden entrance in one of the rooms leading to an underground subway station with a few small stations and shops.
Einangrað Flugvél: Approximately 50 Kilometers from Skíðabrekkur is Einangrað Flugvél, the guild's main aboveground facilities. Located in a hidden location on top of an ice sheet, shielded from satelites, GOD operates a large airfield, as well as the breeding ground for their Beasts Of Burden and other facilities that simply could not exist underground. A large school is also located here, Guild Academy.
Skjóluðu Vík: The next stop on the subway line is GOD's main naval base. Their fleet remains here when not on duty. The subway station here is fairly luxurious, including a full food court and several small stores.
Höfuðstöðvar Prime: The main office space, formal entrance hall, and first section built, Höfuðstöðvar Prime is the only part or the base non-members will ever see. It can only be reached via teleport, by air, or by subway, but it offers stunning views of the ice below, and is popular for whale-watching among GOD members.
Aðeins Háttsettir Embættismenn: The highest-security section of GOD's complex, only certain members are allowed in. It contains, among other things, the Guild prison, a portal for speaking directly to Abaddon, and a breeding facility for sea creatures.
Borgin Ekkert: The heart of GOD, Borgin Ekkert is a large underground city home to some 500,000 inhabitants, more than four times that of Iceland's real biggest city. Though heavily policed by GOD's secret police, Leyndarmál Lögreglu, it is far from totalitarian, and the citizens enjoy great personal freedoms that increase with their rank in GOD. But even the lowliest grunt has a home to call their own, a living wage, and free healthcare. The city is literally buried in the rock a couple miles down, making it all but impossible to discover, let alone attack.
This is far from the only base of operations the Guild has, but it is the most significant, and losing any part of it would be a significant blow to GOD, which is why the whole complex is defended beyond belief.

GOD Timeline:
1657: The Founder receives a vision from Abaddon and is inspired to form the Guild. At the time, they are primarily based in Germany. 1662: The Founder is killed by a German Colorperson. 1678: The Guild is forced to flee Germany and seek a new home after several members are killed. 1692: röð dauðans, an Icelandic mob, is formed. 1735: The Guild reaches Iceland and comes into conflict with röð dauðans. 1742: The Unifier sacrifices himself to save the heads of röð dauðans, causing the two factions to reconcile and merge into the Guild Of Death we know and love today. 1766: A major recruiting push begins. With the recruiting of Dhamphir Darkmore and the Raven Gang, the GOD is finally able to begin active crime work. 1792: Höfuðstöðvar Prime is built. 1821: Borgin Ekkert is built. 1877: Sigurvin Thomasson kills many of his fellow GOD members, plunging the faction into chaos. 1881: Chrom Cross revitalizes the Guild. 1890: Aðeins Háttsettir Embættismenn is built. Work begins on a rail line connecting the three base components. 1931: Skjóluðu Vík completed. 1942: The Berlin Massacre. Several GOD members are captured by Axis forces while on a mission to cripple the Third Reich. 1944: Einangrað Flugvél built. 1945: Gunný Bernharðursdottir returns to the Guild, Gunný's law established (one never truly leaves the guild) 1951: Skíðabrekkur and the connecting subway loop completed. 1986: Quway Riddle orders a complete modernization of the GOD's main base. 2008: Operation גילדה של מוות is a resounding success. GOD takes over in several third world countries in the middle east and northern africa, founding the African Guild Of Nations Young (AGONY), a large democracy that quickly becomes a modernized world power. Tyríön Níchilsön becomes AGONY's Prime Minister. 2014: GOD's focus turns to Sodor as the perfect foothold for conquest of the British Isles.
