Diesel 11
can we make a horror story in one of our LMs?
11:49
Frankthetriviaman
Tug says we already did that... LM 4
*He's on xbox chat with me
11:50
Diesel 11
tell that bastard to finish LM 14 already
11:51
Frankthetriviaman
He lost motivation after the post refreshed; he was 8 percent done and he lost it. He will do it; just give him a chance to reignite his spark
*80 percent
11:52
Diesel 11
ask him how he likes LM 16 so far
i also want your thoughts Frank
11:52
Frankthetriviaman
*Give me some words of encouragement I can share with him guys; he really felt down about losing the post
toz?
......
I'm ok with it so far; I did just post there and Titanic after all
11:53
Diesel 11
well there's nothing else i can say except that post sounded like it was going to be spectacular, and doing it again may help him add some details he may not have thought of the first time around
i saw, i'm thinking of a response for it
11:54
Frankthetriviaman
Remember what I said though- each death must bring plot development; if this becomes just an endless string of Man-deaths, I'll honestly lose interest
11:54
Toz76
I've had posts get lost too, but sometimes you come up with better ideas the second time around
11:55
Diesel 11
Walton is going to have a rough ride in this novel, I've already got some things planned for down the line
11:56
Frankthetriviaman
Let's be real here
if The Man got word of the details of how Walton helped bring down the mob, instead of just "Irish Mob brought down by joint operation"
He would be afraid. Very, very afraid.
11:57
Diesel 11
no he wouldn't, he's The Motherfucking Man
my guy doesn't give a shit about the mob anyway
11:58
Frankthetriviaman
Seriously, he's got an SAS commando on his tail; he's not some run of the mill detective.
11:58
Diesel 11
no, but The Man isn't some run of the mill crook either
11:58
Toz76
He's also a known racist who uses violent means most officers and detectives wouldn't use. I think the Man would maybe even view him as a target??
I mean, let's be real, Walton is kind of a hypocrite
11:59
Frankthetriviaman
Walton isn't racist; when he says "Damn Swede" he's playing off of Gunnarson's nickname, "The Swede"
12:00
Diesel 11
"Incredible that the country that birthed that damned Gunnarson also gave me my wonderful wife."
but i love him anyway, more so than Gunnarson in fact
he's a cool noodle
12:01
Toz76
Sure, Gunnarson's methods are clearly flawed, but Walton uses SAS gear for his "detective work"
12:01
Frankthetriviaman
True; but context is key. He is aware that the mob also has military equipment from the Gadfrey case, and going up against them with traditional means would be borderline suicide.
12:01
Toz76
Future LM pitch: him doing that leads to civilian casualties, people start calling him a "Gunnarson", and he's forced to reevaluate his methods
It works for LM14, but I don't really want him as a regular POV character
12:02
Diesel 11
i like it, especially since we're promoting him to an official lead character with his own volumes
12:02
Frankthetriviaman
He knows that, after the mob's reign of terror, which by now has lasted years, if he is going to stop them... he must resort to untraditional tactics... the kind he learned about in the SAS
...
12:03
Toz76
Unless he tones down the "throwing bombs at shit" tactics
12:03
Frankthetriviaman
I have plans for some volumes, but don't worry- this is the only time we'll be seeing him like this
12:04
Toz76
Good
12:05
Diesel 11
do either of you have any thoughts on Filly so far?
12:05
Toz76
I really want to start developing Elvira more- she'll be in LM18, but beyond that there's nothing definite yet for her
12:05
Diesel 11
Elvira??
12:06
Toz76
Goddammit
Marlena
12:06
Frankthetriviaman
From here on out, the special equipment only comes out as a method of last resort... the kind of methods he would need to use when confronting an enemy who clearly knows how the police play and is always a step ahead, and has access to very, very uncoventional resources
12:06
Toz76
Why do I confuse the two
12:07
Frankthetriviaman
Like the ripper underground. Tug's been working on a plot where Walton confront's one of the Ripper's top men. Trust me- it will make sense then
12:07
Diesel 11
probably because Elvira was a name that i would have used on every one of my female characters were it not for the fact that doing so would be stupid
12:07
Toz76
It is a good name
Might make it Priori's real name, but probably not
12:07
Frankthetriviaman
Once commissioner turner takes over- I'm actually having a scene to address it; don't worry
12:07
Diesel 11
i should probably add another one in just for shits and giggles
since it went unanswered, thoughts on Filly so far?
12:10
Frankthetriviaman
Walton will only be "throwing bombs at things" when it becomes clear that the threat is very great and no other options exist. We will not, however, see the same extent of this level of action; if we do reach it, it will only be isolated to the climax; before that, it will be reasonable.
*Walton is not a one-note character; yes he is former SAS, but that is not the only aspect of his character
So rest assured Toz; this was thought out
12:11
Toz76
He's not one-note, but I don't like him as a protagonist
LM18 will have him in a significant role, but he'll be more of a hindrance to stopping Blade than a help
12:13
Diesel 11
posted in 16, it's short but i didn't want to drag it out right away.
this time though let's not just rush through, let's actually have them go in and kill them in a scene, not a flashback or whatever
12:15
Frankthetriviaman
How so? It's not that he's incompetent. So I can best help with writing 18, how would you like him portrayed there?
12:17
Toz76
What have I already told you about the plot of LM18?
12:18
Frankthetriviaman
You told me three key things so far
1) Marlena's kidnapping
2) Blade's last stand
3) we agreed that this was the book where Gent retires
......
I need to be careful going forward; I don't want to ruin your vision, but I also need to avoid contradiction with what was already written about Walton's character; as long as I understand where you want to go, I shouldn't have any problems with that
12:21
Toz76
Well, basically, what happens is this:
A few days after Marlena is kidnapped, the police finally find a clue, and Gent sends Walton to track Blade down. He gets a bunch of reports that Blade and Marlena have been seen in a small Welsh town, so he and two SAS friends go to the address armed to the teeth since they know Blade is dangerous
^Walton and two friends
That all in character so far?
12:25
Frankthetriviaman
If he knew that Blade represented a substantial threat, and that confronting him conventionally would present a greater risk to himself and others; then yes
So, given what happened in LM 13, I can see him possibly doing that since he knows how dangerous Blade can be
12:26
Toz76
Exactly
So they make their way to a small hotel in this town, and knock on the door.
Turns out though, Blade paid the locals to lie about it, and the room actually contains 20 hired goons. Walton and his buddies barely escape
12:27
Frankthetriviaman
*When we're done discussing this btw; tug has a question for you
12:27
Toz76
What's the question?
12:28
Frankthetriviaman
Given that you mentioned that you didn't like Walton as a protagonist; what have your thoughts been on Walton in LM 14 so far?
12:29
Toz76
I don't mind him, but given what's been established in past volumes, I've come to see him as an antagonist, so it colors how I see him here
12:29
Diesel 11
i never liked Walton until 14 and now i love him, so....
guess it all depends on the reader
12:29
Frankthetriviaman
*BTW- come the end of the novel, we're actually planning a couple "softer" moments for Walton. Tug explained to me how in this novel, he wanted to make Walton not so black and white.
12:29
Toz76
Anyhoo, Walton soon gets another tip, but obviously he's more careful this time
12:30
Frankthetriviaman
*But I'll explain more when we're done here
12:31
Toz76
But while he's in some distant town, looking for Blade, his wife fights off a pair off assassins hired by Byrne
Eventually, it's been revealed that Byrne has been establishing his own web of criminals, and they've been distracting Walton so Blade can get his revenge with no interference from the most dangerous man in the force
12:33
Frankthetriviaman
Do you mind if I tell tug all this?
*Since I got him on xbox chat now
12:34
Toz76
By the time Byrne and Walton come face to face, Blade has Gunnarson and Marlena on the complete far side of the British isles, and Byrne still gets away (barely), leaving Walton frustrated and useless, even more so when Gunnarson and Marlena inevitably defeat Blade
Sure
12:34
Frankthetriviaman
Ah
12:34
Toz76
He's still operating at full capacity, but he's not actually going up against Blade like he thinks he is, he's going up against Byrne
(Byrne will be in future volumes btw)
12:35
Frankthetriviaman
Interesting
12:36
Toz76
Byrne knows Walton personally from being on the force together, and is super smart to boot, so he plays Walton like at fiddle and gets away at the end
12:36
Frankthetriviaman
So any criminals Walton brings down- are Byrne's men, not Blade's. And any moves he does make actually do minimal, if any, moves against Blade
12:36
Toz76
It should humble him
Yeah
12:36
Frankthetriviaman
Makes sense to me
12:37
Toz76
It doesn't even hurt Byrne all that much either. We learn a lot more about Byrne in this volume, and it's quite interesting I hope
Walton still wins every fight he gets in (except the one time he and Byrne actually meethe family
^meet face to from ace
^face
But he's being played from the beginning
12:38
Frankthetriviaman
I think that's very fair
I mean, I never saw him as super arrogant; as I revealed in the latest post, when he assures that he's former SAS, it's not so much a boastful declaration of pride as it is a assurance of confidence, like "you can count on me!"
12:39
Diesel 11
i already bought my ticket for the hype train
if ye didn't know yet though
i'm going to Germany on the 6th of August
so posting will likely be limited on my end
12:39
Frankthetriviaman
I understand
Genieß deinen Urlaub!
12:40
Diesel 11
Danke
12:40
Frankthetriviaman
And... that probably doesn't mean what I want it to mean... (Embarrased emoji)
"Enjoy your vacation!"
test
Oh no... am I losing internet again?
12:44
Diesel 11
no as far as i can tell that's the way you say it
Toz76 has left the chat.
12:44
Diesel 11
Google Translate is more accurate in English to German translations than you may think
Toz76 has joined the chat.
12:46
Toz76
Posti NV in 16
12:46
Diesel 11
ok
12:50
Frankthetriviaman
So, toz
about LM 14 and 18; I guess we should clarify one of these softer moments, because for LM 18 with the assassination attempt on Nora
the timing is very important
LM 14 is in 1949
and I believe you mentioned in the past that 18 is in 1951, yes?
12:52
Toz76
I think so, yeah
What year is 16? I just posted and hung a lampshade
12:53
Diesel 11
i'm not sure
what year is 16, Frank?
12:54
Frankthetriviaman
I think 16 is late 1949/early 1950; our timeline is very much in need of refinement
12:54
Diesel 11
good post
i'll respond soon
12:55
Frankthetriviaman
Actually, could I go first?
Want to do something brief
......
As for our discussion, toz
the reason the timing is critical is because one of the softer moments with Walton and Nora involves:
So it's the celebration. Everyone's at the restaurant celebrating the defeat of the mob. And after the toast
12:56
Diesel 11
sure frank
12:57
Frankthetriviaman
"Nora? Aren't you going to have some champagne my sweet?" Walton asked curiously.
"Oh no, I should not. It would not be good for our children"
"Nora, we don't any chil... wait, what?" Walton said in shock before face-planting into the table.
"I guess the English can't really can't handle the drink as well as the Irish can, eh?" says Finn as the entire restaurant roars with laughter.
Nora cheekily smiles as she puts her hand on top of Walton's head to comfort him.
12:59
Toz76
Then when Walton confronts Byrne, I'll have a line where he congratulates Walton on fatherhood
1:00
Diesel 11
man, our characters are just growing up so fast :tears:
1:02
Frankthetriviaman
So, basically- just make sure that it is after Nora has given birth (which is moot anyway; it'll be at least two years); and as long as the children aren't killed- should make for a great sequence actually
1:02
Toz76
I'm actually really excited for LM18
Gonna get into the back story of Blade and Muller quite a bit
1:03
Frankthetriviaman
Awesome
1:03
Toz76
Oh, could you tell Tug that Nicholson is in LM16 now, so he has to survive LM14
1:04
Frankthetriviaman
*Is my thing from 13 with "Lionel Kenneth" being caught for a lesser crime at 18 but being given leniency by a sympathetic judge still canon?
1:04
Toz76
Just in case
Sort of
1:04
Frankthetriviaman
Since that's been the only hint at his history so far; figured we should at least acknowledge it
1:04
Toz76
The new thing is, instead of a sympathetic judge, a junior officer takes pity on him, fingerprints him, and lets him off with a warning
1:04
Frankthetriviaman
Funny you say that actually
*the Nicholson surviving
1:05
Toz76
It's basically the same, just one small change
1:05
Frankthetriviaman
Tug wanted me to tell you something
1:05
Toz76
An important change given who the officer is
But still
What?
1:06
Frankthetriviaman
Tug says:
1:08
Toz76
Is that what he says
1:09
Frankthetriviaman
No; he just wants to be sure that he's communicating exactly what he wants to say
"I wrote the climax with Nicholson's death in mind. So toz can bring him back, but it would feel heavily forced. I wanted to tie up all the Irish mob's loose ends so I killed him"
1:10
Toz76
I intended for him to live because I have plans for him. He's been working for the cops this whole time, remember? How did he die in your plan?
1:12
Frankthetriviaman
Tug doesn't want me to spoil the climax, he won't even tell me anything. The only thing he will let me say is that he dies by the poison intended for O'Connor.
1:13
Toz76
That would be ironic, but illogical since Nichols
^is on the boat and O'Connor has the poison with him
1:14
Frankthetriviaman
He said, "it will make sense in the context of the post"
I just proposed something to tug; perhaps you will agree with it?
1:15
Toz76
He can be injured to the point he can never do field work again, but I do need him behind a police desk in future LMs (sort of, it'll become clearer later on), so maybe he took an anti toxin as a preemptive measure and barely lives
^?
What did you propose?
1:16
Frankthetriviaman
Let tug write out the climax (not tonight; we're all tired) as he intended it. Then, once we've all read it and you're both on the same page, a middle ground can be reached
*If you really need Nicholson; the mob don't keep his body; so don't worry about that
It ends up in police custody
You can even write an epilogue about Nicholson not being dead (tug figured you would want him alive, wink emoji)
1:19
Toz76
I can do that
1:19
Frankthetriviaman
......
1:19
Toz76
A fake out death works great actually
1:20
Frankthetriviaman
He said "I'll concede him that"
1:21
Toz76
OK
Tell him I will work off whatever he writes and I look forward to his post
1:21
Frankthetriviaman
Basically, what Tug wants here is the mob's final bow; they will not be appearing from here on. It's just that he wanted to ensure that all loose ends were tied up
Tug agrees with this arrangement
I think this worked out just fine
1:23
Toz76
Awesome
can we make a horror story in one of our LMs?
11:49
Frankthetriviaman
Tug says we already did that... LM 4
*He's on xbox chat with me

So any criminals Walton brings down- are Byrne's men, not Blade's. And any moves he does make actually do minimal, if any, moves against Blade
12:36
Toz76
It should humble him
Yeah
12:36
Frankthetriviaman
Makes sense to me
12:37
Toz76
It doesn't even hurt Byrne all that much either. We learn a lot more about Byrne in this volume, and it's quite interesting I hope
Walton still wins every fight he gets in (except the one time he and Byrne actually meethe family
^meet face to from ace
^face
But he's being played from the beginning
12:38
Frankthetriviaman
I think that's very fair
I mean, I never saw him as super arrogant; as I revealed in the latest post, when he assures that he's former SAS, it's not so much a boastful declaration of pride as it is a assurance of confidence, like "you can count on me!"

i already bought my ticket for the hype train
if ye didn't know yet though
i'm going to Germany on the 6th of August
so posting will likely be limited on my end

And... that probably doesn't mean what I want it to mean... (Embarrased emoji)
"Enjoy your vacation!"

Oh no... am I losing internet again?
12:44
Diesel 11
no as far as i can tell that's the way you say it

So, toz
about LM 14 and 18; I guess we should clarify one of these softer moments, because for LM 18 with the assassination attempt on Nora
the timing is very important
1:23
Toz76
Awesome
