Literary Mosaic 16 Epilogues Well, dear readers, we've come a long way. I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading this volume of Literary Mosaic, but the story is not yet at end. There are handful of loose ends yet to be tied up, and the epilogues directly following will finish it off for good. At this time I would like to give my thanks to Detective Walton, without whom this volume would have been empty. He was able to supply me with all of the events that you have read in a superb fashion and helped make this a volume to remember. Thank you once again for reading, and I hope to see you again soon. Yours, James Hartley

EPILOGUE ONE
In the end, Walton attributed J.J.E.'s escape to the fact that both had been injured in an explosion by external forces; had this been a normal fight everyone pretty much agreed Walton would have taken J.J.E. down.
"It may have been an even playing field this time; but next time he won't be so lucky" Walton assured. The good news was that Walton was not severely injured and nothing he sustained was permanent; but he would need to hang up his badge for a while so he could recover.
"How ironic, that I may be in the hospital at the same time as Nora when the babies arrive" he thought to himself. He was just grateful that his injuries weren't any worse than they were.
......
The same, however, could not be said for Blaze... or rather, Jennifer Pyros, as found out when the fingerprints were taken and linked to her birth certificate. Having taken a nearly direct hit from the explosion, she suffered very extensive injuries. Both of her legs were broken, as well as her left arm. There were scars and all sorts of injuries scattered across her body, and the cherry on top... her right eye was also injured. The doctors, however, assured that unlike the injury that took her left eye this one would eventually heal, but it would take a long time.
Blaze went from simply lacking depth perception... to being blind and crippled. So extensive were her injuries the judge deemed her unfit for trial; at any rate she had been deemed to have poor mental health by the psychologists who analyzed her, so she found herself locked up in Broadmoor Hospital, though she required additional care on account of her injuries.
A cruel irony, many observed- The one who despised men, was now dependent on them for medical care and imprisoned by them.

EPILOGUE TWO
The Lincoln Cathedral is an impressive monument to human building design. Its groundbreaking took place in 1072; the Cathedral replaced the Great Pyramid of Giza as the tallest building in the world and retained that title for 238 years. To this day, it's a staple figure of London and one of the finest tourist attractions out there.
Blaze's cathedral fire was a matter of poor taste, thus, as she ended up destroying several bits of the cathedral just to make a statement to the city at large. However, it is a credit to the building design that it managed to remain relatively unscathed, despite some of the damages to its unique features.
In a little less than a year, the cathedral was restored to its original state and remains a great draw for people visit the city of London and for those who wish to get a little closer to God. As Father Andrew Matthewson says, "The Lincoln Cathedral will always remain a testament to the fact that evil will never triumph over good."
Long may it remain.

EPILOGUE THREE
The press had assembled outside Scotland Yard as Commissioner Gent delivered a statement on recent events.
"With the arrest of serial killer Jennifer Pyros, better known as "Blaze," and the recent disappearance of J.J.E., I am happy to announce that, following conferral with my fellow police chiefs, curfew is now lifted. Furthermore, Ms. Pyros is no longer a threat; when we captured her she was in a severely injured state, and is now being held at Broadmoor Hospital, on account of her poor mental health. As for J.J.E. he has gone into hiding, and we suspect he will not surface any time soon" Gent declared as the press began asking questions.
"What about the Hell Patrol?" One reporter asked.
"Please refrain from the use of that name; we hate the implications that come with it. The Tactical Armament Patrol, as we prefer, did achieve some success, but I do not feel it is a completely necessary tool moving forward. Therefore, it is my decision that once the injured parties involved recover and return to work, the Patrol will be disbanded and the Detectives and officers in question will resume their normal duties" Gent explained.
"When will Blaze go on trial?" another asked.
"There will be no trial; the psychologists of Broadmoor have assessed her and deemed her mentally unfit for trial. She is in a rather pathetic state anyway; the stress of a trial would be unconscionable even for us" Gent replied.
"But what about J.J.E.? He's still on the loose" Another reporter pointed out.
"After discussing the situation with my fellow commissioners; we have decided that for the time being he is not a threat to London and shall focus our resources elsewhere for now. Though evidence does suggest he kills those who do wrong... this makes him a hypocrite and no better than those he kills. His time will come, but for now, we have bigger fish to fry"
The press conference ended soon after; Gent returned to his office, and Scotland Yard returned to business as usual.

EPILOGUE FOUR
The charred remains of Duncan Branworth's body were dumped in the sea. His only relative wanted nothing to do with him, and thus his corpse went on to eternal rest with the fishes.
After being retrieved from the church tower, the body of Sebastian Jordan was cremated to save space. Having no relatives, not a soul was there to say a prayer for his immortal soul.
Due to his help in breaking the burglary ring, Stanley Davidson served a mere five years in jail. He never did walk again, but spent the rest of his life helping out at a children's hospital, thankful to have been given a second chance at life. He died a respected man who had had a dark past but had managed to turn a new leaf. Until his dying day, he always retained that his meeting with J.J.E. was the best thing that ever happened to him.
No one wanted anything to do with Colver. It is unknown what exactly ended up happening to his body, but mothers still use him to frighten their children into staying away from strangers.
Stephen Colbricht was buried in an unmarked grave, remembered solely for all of his wrongdoings. Death, they say, is the ultimate equalizer.
The fact that a total of three bodies were found in St. Peter's Church on two separate occasions nearly threatened to close its doors, but thanks to some fiery preaching on "God's judgement" and "the evil that men do", the vicar managed to keep it open and it has a bigger congregation now than it did before.
Michael Walts was posthumously stripped of his title when the truth of his pedophilic nature was unveiled to the public. It became the biggest scandal of the year and was a blow to the Catholic church. It took a while before people were able to move on from it, and the father was condemned and sentenced to a final resting place in a trash receptacle after an angry mob stormed off with it. Little Jimmy grew up to become an advocate against the church's cover-ups and pedophilia as a whole, and managed to become a successful and well-respected government official.
The effects of Blaze on London society lasted about a month before things went back to normal. Really, one could say her work had all been for naught....

EPILOGUE FIVE
Actually, there is something I need to come clean about. Most of that ending confrontation between Walton and J.J.E. is true, but I forgot some crucial information about the ending. While it is true that J.J.E. did escape from Walton, Walton didn't let him get away without leaving him fair warning.
......
The Man turned and looked at Walton. "I do not know," he said. "But I promise you this: I will return again some day, and when my final hours arrive, I promise that you will be the only man who will pull the trigger that takes my life."
Walton propped himself against the wall, refusing to fall down again. J.J.E. was barely staggering away, himself in no better a state than a detective.
"Know this though" Walton began, "there is no where you can hide... I've got eyes and ears everywhere. The Irish Mob... Blade... you're nothing compared to them. You're patterns are too obvious and we know how you work now. And, if you look right there..." Walton said, pointing at a point on the ground. J.J.E. looked over to see a patch of skin... or so he thought. Feeling his cheeks... he realized the make up had come off. Between the explosion and the fight, it must have not been able to survive the elements.
"...for the record, I never forget a face" Walton stated.
"And I never wear the same one twice" J.J.E. shot back before walking away.
Some officers arrived later to find Walton in the alley; they helped him get to the ambulances that were on stand by not to far away.

EPILOGUE SIX
In the weeks following the climactic showdown at the warehouse, J.J.E. wasn't seen or heard from again. Although some witnesses reported seeing a "staggering man who looked delirious" in the general area following his escape, no one was able to pinpoint exactly where he ended up.
The public attitude toward him also shifted. Once a controversial figure, who some saw as a Robin Hood and others a cold-blooded murderer, now there was no controversy. When his attack on detectives was made public, as well as his alliance with the serial killer Blaze, now he was seen as a public menace; a hypocrite no better than those he killed.
The press was universal in their condemnation of J.J.E.; those who had run editorials or articles favoring the "Robin Hood" argument, now ran apologies for their earlier statements, saying that now they saw him for who he really was.
But he was still out there, and the possibility existed that he would strike again at any moment. Others said he was "dead in a ditch" somewhere though; his trauma not survivable without immediate medical aid. Only time would tell if J.J.E. would strike again. Until then though, the court was adjourned.

EPILOGUE SEVEN:
Lord Bury sat in his office, listening to the latest exploit of two of his top lieutenants...
"And then we dumped them in a random warehouse for the Hell Patrol to find..." finished Burgess
"Good, those two thorns in my sides are finally dealt with so I can focus on threats that truly matter... With the new recruits hot on his trail and Heathcliff on standby, Blade should be as good as dead shortly., Hawthorne also rather successfully pulled off a few heists on the Spider's Web warehouses, so we're good with resources for now. Pierceson, bring Quincy to base, I want you drag him out of retirement and manage the business side of a new Assassination Ring, I can't like the Arachnid get the jump on me, especially when I have the better contract killers. After you get that off the ground, I want you to focus on eliminating the Brotherhood of the Dark, they're gaining traction and I don't like that, end them, understood?" ordered Bury
"Yes sir..." stoically replied Pierceson as he left Bury's office
"As for you Burgess, you did good work this time, so are a reward I got another job for you..." said Bury with a grin
"Oh sir, you shouldn't have..." scowled Burgess
"Stop complaining, I'll pay you this time, alright? Report to Heathcliff to deal with those burns and then go out there with some muscle and tackle the Army of the Fallen... Those military goons don't have the strength to deal with our thugs, especially with the acquirement of all those Irish Mobsters..." ordered Bury
"Right Boss..." sighed Burgess as he left the room, off on another assignment
"I'll have to thank J.J.E. for something, now that he's gone, my business has never prospered as much..." laughed Bury to himself
Miss Ashton soon entered Bury's office and said, "Lord Bury sir, you have a call, it seems the three on the Blade case have made some progress in their search for him..."
"Perfect..."

EPILOGUE EIGHT
Far away in a house in Scotland, a man sitting with his head in his hands. Things had been going crazy for him over the last few days, and he thought it couldn't get any worse.
Just then the phone rang. He picked up the receiver. A familiar-sounding voice spoke into it.
"Hello, Hartley..."
To be continued...
