Had whacked the one with the broken bottle across the head; making him crumble to the ground and knocking him out cold
"I Got this! Go help with the safe!" Finn ordered. The ice pick thug lunged for Finn, but thinking quickly Finn rammed the pipe longways into the thug's gut, stopping him, and allowing Finn to slam the pipe into the back of the grunt's head, stopping him cold. But Keogh had gotten behind Finn, and pistol whipped him onto the ground. Keogh stood over Finn as Fin lay on his back.
"You damn Irishman... you'll pay for this! Any last words?" Keogh asked as he aimed.
"Yea... pay more attention to where you're standing you cocky bastard!" Finn screamed as his foot shot up like a rocket and slammed into Keogh's groin. Keogh crumpled to the ground in the fetal position, the held out one arm with the gun.
"I'm... not... done yet..." he said in an unusually high pitched voice. He aimed, but Finn just stood there. Keogh pulled the trigger... only to hear the sound of the hammer hitting an empty chamber. "Wh...what?"
"Seven shots... you're out. Me on the other hand" Finn began as he finally drew out his gun. Keogh was now terrified, but the pain kept him in the fetal position.
"Boss! I cracked the safe!" Callahan called out

"Grab the the money and the dirt on the people this bastard is selling us out to. Kelleher, O'Sullivan, dump out all the booze and get me a lighter, we're burning this damn joint to the ground..." chuckled Finn
"Right boss..." replied the two as they followed orders given...
"No! You can't leave us here to die!" shouted Keogh
"I have no sympathy for traitors to the Boss like you, we're done here..." growled Finnegan as he kicked Keogh once more for good measure
After about ten minutes and with the loot in tow, Kelleher dropped a lighter on the alcohol soaked floor, causing the building to ignite, as the four Irish Mobsters walked away in victory as eerie screams could be heard from within the burning building...

As they put the last of the loot in the trunk and got into the car, Finn heard the last sound he wanted to hear; the sound of sirens quickly approaching their location.
"Get us out of here now!" Finn ordered. The car quickly took off in the other direction, as police cars surrounded the building.
......
When they arrived at Rolling Green Tavern, Finn ordered his underlings to get the loot inside. They were quite impressed with their haul; no less than 35 thousand pounds had been recovered. Then Finn called them together.
"Ok boys, I want you to listen carefully- after a stunt like that, no doubt Scotland Yard is going to be looking for us. I normally wouldn't do this, but something Keogh said to me gave me reason to think the cops know more than we realize."
"What? Are you sure?" O'Sullivan asked.
"No doubt about it. I want you to listen carefully- I'm going to "disappear" for the next few days, until the heat dies down. While I'm gone, make no attempts to contact me. Lay low, and don't do a thing until I return, that clear?"
"Yes boss... but, why?"
"Use your damn heads! We're on the verge of taken over organized crime all over Ireland AND Britain; one wrong move and we'll lose everything! I'll say it again- don't contact me, I'll contact you, is that clear?"
"Yes boss" Kelleher replied.
Finn then disappeared into the streets... and about an hour later, was at Scotland Yard.
As he walked into the office from before, he decided it was about time he properly introduce himself to the detective who he would be working with... Walton, was it?
He saw the detective at his desk typing a report. When Finn walked up to him, Walton only needed to look at his face for a few seconds to put the pieces together.
"So, start any fires recently?" Walton asked.
"Is it that obvious?" Finn asked with a straight face.
"You've still got some soot on your cheeks" Walton quipped, as Finn cracked a slight grin. Then Walton took out a carton of cigarettes and put one in his mouth. "got a light?"

"Sorry sir, I used all my matches up starting the fire."
Walton snorted. "Very funny, "Finnegan". Now, let's get down to business.

Meanwhile, however, Shakes, Lion, and Nicholson were about to be rescued by the mob.

"It's funny, I seem to recall leaving it in a building, but how bad could that be?" grinned Finn
"Alright, it's a good laugh, but we need to deal with this if we want to take down O'Connor, the sun's bound to set soon and I have to make it home for dinner, so work with a detective to write up a report of your latest encounter we'll work up a plan tomorrow, sound good to you?" asked Walton
"I'll get right on it then, see you Detective..." replied Finnegan as he started to walk away, but threw something at Walton last minute... It was a lighter...
"Cocky bastard..." smiled Walton as he proceeded towards his car and headed home...
.....
Michael Walton was glad to finally see his familiar front door and the smell of inlagt sill (pickled herring) on the air...
"I'm glad Nora remembered my favorite dish from Gothenburg. What a lovely city for food, and an even lovelier city for producing such a wonderful wife..." chuckled Walton to himself.
Putting his keys in the door, he couldn't wait to see the face of his beloved wife...
"Nora my sweet, I'm home!"

Walton entered his home to find dinner was just about ready. Nora was putting the finishing touches on dinner as he hung up his hat and coat and came into the kitchen.
"Hello min kära, how was work today?" She asked as she went up to the liquor shelf and pulled down a bottle of Walton's favorite brandy. Walton walked up to his wife and they shared a quick kiss before sitting down at the table. Nora then poured some brandy before they settled in to have their dinner.
"Ah, English and Swedish, who knew they made such a good combination?" Walton mused.
"Are you talking about the brandy and inlagt sill, or about us?" Nora asked before they started eating.
"Both" Walton replied, before they shared another quick kiss. They were about halfway through dinner before Walton finally explained what had happened today.
"... and now they've got a man from G2 working with us, and the goal is that we'll bring down the mob once and for all" he finished.
"But they've been after the mob for years; why did they only put you on this case now?" Nora asked, concerned.
"If I had to guess, they've had the same half a dozen detectives on the job for years and the most they've accomplished was imprisoning a couple lieutenants. They want the top guys now, and they decided I was the one to go after them." he explained.
"But that still doesn't explain why you of all detectives" Nora pointed out.
"Well my dear, I guess they decided that if they want to take down the mob... it's going to take someone from the SAS to do it" Walton quipped.
"This will not be easy, will it Michael?" Nora asked.
"To be honest... I would not be surprised if it took months to close this case. " Walton replied.
"Michael, remember, if there is anything that you need help with, I always lend you aid" Nora assured
"That's great Nora; but I don't think you'll be able to help with this specific case" Walton explained.
"Michael, don't mock me; you know I served in the WAAF during the war. It was the best I could do to contribute to the war effort" Nora reminded him.
"I know, my sweet. Our relationship is something that transcends even a war. I'll never forget what you did for me in those years, and I will always appreciate everything you do for me"
"Then tell me this Walton- why did it take you two and a half years for you to pop the question after we met?" Nora quipped
"Because my dear, I had some personal issues I had to deal with" Walton explained as he thought about a certain someone
......
It was the dead of night at HM Prison Wandsworth. Nicholson sat in his cell as he wondered when he would be getting out of here... if he would be getting out of here. Shakes and Lion... despite knowing all too well they could kill him at any moment, at least they were honorable, and they did deliver the message as instructed by O'Connor.
"Right; so O'Connor said he'd be getting me out of here... but why the hell did they put me in the same cell as this guy? Why the last minute transfer" He thought to himself as he looked at his cellmate. The man was not particularly intimidating, but he was something of a legend in the prison. His name was Nigel Wolff, and back in the thirties he had trained dogs to kill people in order to get a hold of his brother's fortune. At least, that was what he heard of the situation.

As dusk fell at HM Prison Wandsworth, a police van drove up to the gates.
"We have orders direct from Scotland Yard to move three prisoners connected to the Blade case." Said the driver, giving him their names.
"Right away." The Guard said.
Within minutes, Nicholson, Shakes, and Lion had been moved to the van.
"Alright, let's get a move on." The driver said, heading out in the direction of Scotland Yard.
A few "wrong turns" later, the van arrived at a jetty in the middle of nowhere, where a boat was waiting.
"Welcome back to the fold, Nicholson." A man said as he came aboard.
"Oh, please, call my by my Irish name. I'm McLean." "Nicholson" said.
"Who are these two freaks?" Asked the captain.
"They are known as Shakes and Lion. But I believe they'll make valuable assets."
"That's not your decision."
"O'Connor?" McLean asked, stuttering.
"I decided to oversee this personally. There's been a lot of odd occurrences wherever Finn goes, and I figure there's some things I can handle myself. Now, show me these assassins of yours."

(So to clarify- Is McLean is real name or are "Nicholson" and "McLean" both names he uses?)
Shakes and Lion stepped out of the truck, and despite both looking like they had seen better days, it was clear they still had a lot of fight in them. O'Connor however, wasn't too thrilled.
"What the heck? I'm told that two of the top assassins in London can be mine for the right price, and I end up with these guys? Someone has a lot of explaining to do or I'll..." O'Connor suddenly found himself restrained and in a rather... bad position and Shakes and Lion had him restrained, despite missing an arm each.
"Just so you know... from this position we have six different ways to kill you" Shakes began.
"But we're giving you a pass this time since you got us out of Prison" Lion continued as they let him go. The mob members present were so shocked by what transpired, they didn't even think about drawing their weapons.
"I'll be damned... there may be some use with you two after all" O'Connor said, impressed. Then he lead them to his boat so they could "discuss the finer points"
......
The next day, Walton and Finn reported to Scotland Yard, and met briefly with Commander Martins. "G2 has said that they are throwing their full support behind this operation; so whatever is necessary within the law to bring down the mob" Martins assured before going to meet with other officials.
"Right, so its a new day, and a fresh start. What now?" Finn asked.
"Well, probably best to start from the beginning so tell me this- what can you tell me about Ryan O'Connor, the man himself?" Walton asked.
|

"Ryan O'Connor is a foul beast who hungers for power. Even when he was mook working for two bit gangs he was exceedingly clever. He only became the King of the Irish Underworld by constantly pitting rival gangs against each other, who would then go on to destroy the other and he would build a new gang of the survivors from the ashes. Or he would even join gangs and kill the boss' head while working inside the gang. You might think that crazy or even stupid, but besides leading one of the greatest Irish gangs and having the smarts to run an operation that covers a small nation, O'Connor is one of the toughest bastards I know with strength for days. No matter the weapon, he an beat you to a bloody pulp. With the strength to silence dissenters and witnesses, and the smarts to never leave a trail, he is the most dangerous criminal in all of the Emerald Isles..."
"Damn, so what should we do then?"
"Detective, the best place to start is to gather the cases we have on the Mob and I'll fact check the ones I personally know O'Connor was apart of, it'll be hard, but we might be able to find a link between him and the case besides my word..."
Walton soon went off to gather those case files, and returned shortly with two cardboard boxes filled with cases...
"Let's see then..."

Walton sifted through the files and showed Finn the crimes that had been linked to the mob since the year started.
January 20, 1948: Drive-by shooting; two cars shot from multiple assailants. Evidence suggests at least a dozen shooters, heavily armed. four victims in the first car; the owner of a local brewery, plus the manager, a bodyguard and the driver. Victims in the second car... were three local twenty-somethings that were in the wrong place at the wrong time; we suspect they were killed simply because the shooter, after killing the intended target, wanted to ensure no witnesses. Wasn't a perfect job though- one of the men in the back of the second car survived; probably because the killers ran out of ammunition and had to flee. The one guy who lived didn't see much on account of ducking, but when he looked up and managed to see one guy who was barking orders to the others. Based on the sketch he described to the artist... we suspect it may be Kieran McDonnell; one of O'Connor's London enforcers. It's a stretch at best... but only the mob could have been this brutal.
February 4, 1948: A local pub, the Crown and Rose, was firebombed. Witnesses saw about seven men pull up in a couple cars, then lob molotov cocktails at the place about an hour before it was to close. The owner, Wallace Jones, was a British national with a strong resentment for the Irish... he was found clubbed and stabbed in the alley behind the establishment. Normally, we'd consider mark this off as the work of some angry Irishmen, but witnesses from across the street, and some of the survivors of the pub who did manage to slip away, did manage to describe the one who was directing the attack. Based on the sketch, we suspect that one of O'Connor's London lieutenants, Columba Callaghan, was behind the attack. Whether it was on O'Connor's orders or a personal vendetta... hard to say.
February 17th, 1948: One of our own, Constable Clyde Brooks, was brutally beaten by a trio of Irishmen. We'd normally consider this a crime of hate... but he managed to identify the lead as Lochlan Maguire; a very prominent soldier in the mob's ranks; has a... very particular talent for ruffing up the mob's enemies. Considering that Constable Brooks had seized a couple Irish mob trucks the week before, we don't think it was a coincidence.
March 10, 1948: A six-man British street gang was found shot to death in an alley. Thought it was typical street violence, until one witnessed heard a man scream "You tried muscling in on my turf, so Fintan Mahoney is arranging a little appointment for you... with the devil himself!" before all hell broke loose. Mahoney is a top lieutenant for O'Connor... runs the day to day of a couple operations from what we can figure out... but we can never seem to find him.
March 30, 1948: Seized a weapon stash, found hidden under a pub that's frequented by Irishmen. We seized a journal belonging to Kian Considine; the language suggests he was running the operation. However... we've got no record of him, indicating that it was either an alias or he's never had a run in with the law.
April 10, 1948: Another local brewery was ransacked. The police managed to arrive before they set the place on fire, managed to arrest six of the thugs, but the leader of the attack, Manus Kiley, shot himself in the head after he was cornered. Considering that he... was one of O'Connor's enforcers, we suspect he knew something that he didn't want us to find out.
April 19, 1948: Bricks are thrown at the house of Detective Lieutenant Leon Ellis. He had been investigating suspected mob activity in the South, but was the message on the bricks was quite clear: "Stay away or next time, it won't just be your house." They cleared out rather quickly; we suspect it was mostly the work of grunts.
May 2, 1948: Rare appearance of O'Connor; a constable on patrol observed him sitting in a pub... but he had a couple really large guards with him, so he didn't approach. Apparently, during the night he was being harassed by a couple Englishmen, kept calling him "Damn Paddy" and other names... half an hour later the two were found with their throats slit in the back alley. We strongly suspect not a coincidence.
May 15, 1948: Donagh Quinlan, a low ranking soldier of the mob, called Scotland Yard, claiming he had information and wanted to turn himself in, in exchange for protection from prosecution. When the police went to his apartment... he was found hanging just outside the window... we suspect one of O'Connor's enforcers figured out the situation.
June 2, 1948: Ossian Gallagher, one of the discredited doctors the mob uses to treat their wounded in secret, was arrested and his "clinic" seized. Next day, the clinic was firebombed and Gallagher was freed when the officer transporting him went to make a phone call but forgot to lock his car. We suspect he's still on the loose.
"... and these are just the major ones we know about. Anything you can offer?" Walton asked.

(Bumping this since technically this is the one that should be priority)
"Yes, I can... are you sure this is all the files?" Finn asked.
"Yea, the major ones. Most of the other stuff is assaults with no deaths and robberies where the amount of money stolen was less than 500 pounds" Walton explained.
"I see. Well, I can fact check most of these; you want me to start early or recent?" Finn asked

On his boat, O'Connor met with McLean, Shakes, and Lion. Murphy and Kelly were also in attendance.
"You two don't look Irish," O'Connor observed to the two assassins.
"Oh, goodness no. We're Scottish. But there's a lot of sympathy for Irish independence up in Scotland, and a paycheck's a paycheck, anyway. We'll do anything you need us to do for the right price."
"Then I have an assignment for you." O'Connor pulled a sheet of paper out of his desk.
"Charles Darnay. An Englishman who's been frequenting one of our establishments of late. We don't know if he's with Bury or the bobbies, but we want him snuffed, promptly. All the information you need is in the envelope."
The two assassins bowed and departed.
"As for you, McLean, Kelly, Murphy, I have another assignment for you. It's come to my attention that I someone high in our ranks has been leaking our movements to the bobbies. I've been monitoring the three of you, so I have narrowed it down to four individuals." O'Connor pulled out another sheet of paper.
"Connolly, Finnegan, Doc, Mulligan..." Kelly faltered. "Sir, these are your top men!"
"I know. You three and them are the only ones trusted with certain things that the authorities seem to have figured out. So I've decided that from now on, we must remain in pairs at all times. McLean shall be paired with Finnegan. Mulligan will be with myself. Murphy will pair with Doc, and Kelly will watch over Connolly. If any of you four notice anything suspicious concerning your "partner", don't hesitate to inform the others. What I've told you today does not leave this room. Clear?"
The other three nodded assent.
"The four suspects will rendezvous with us tomorrow at a safe house. After that time, do not let your partner out of your sight. Tiocfaidh ar la."
The other three repeated the Irish slogan and began preparing to weed out the traitor.

McLean was surprised to not find Finn anywhere at the docks or the Rolling Green. He asked the boys who saw Finn last about his whereabouts.
"Gone into hiding" O'Sullivan explained.
"Why?" McLean asked.
"Boss told you about the Keogh job, right?" Kelleher asked.
"Yes; quite a haul you had there" McLean complimented.
"Well, seems Finn was thinking the same thing as O'Connor. Keogh said some things that made Finn believe the bobbies know more than we realize. So once we came back he gave very clear instructions. He was going into hiding for a while and under no curcumstances was he to be contacted. He would contact us once he was certain the heat died down" O'Sullivan explained
"But why didn't he tell you where he was going?" McLean asked.
"That was our decision actually; if we get caught, and the damn Brits press us for Finn's whereabouts, we won't be lying when we say we don't know" Kelleher pointed out
"Rather clever actually; that doesn't help me though" McLean said.
"This isn't the first time it's happened and O'Connor understands how Finn works; just wait a few days and we'll update him" Callahan assured.

He was looking over some other files that pertained to the mob cases, while Finn was fact checking the noteable cases that had been brought to his attention. "well, what can you tell me about them?" Just as Finn was about to go over the cases with Walton, Burton came running in...
"Detective Walton, come quick! Something's happened that we think is tied to your case!" shouted Burton
"What is it then, spit it out Burton!" yelled Walton
"It's Detective Stein! He's missing! We found Conrad and Johnson badly beaten and near death on the station's stoop! They said a bunch of Irish thugs jumped the three of them after they finished a case and ran off with Stein!" replied Burton
"I need to speak with them to find out why, where are they?" asked Walton
"They're being rushed to the hospital as we speak! Johnson's not even awake and Conrad is passing in and out of consciousness... Right now we're trying to find Detective Stein and hope those two will make it..." answered Burton
"Alright then Burton go with Conrad and Johnson to the hospital and report to me when they wake up, I'll stay with Finn here and figure out where they took Stein are why they took him in the first place, now go!"
"Yes sir!"
Walton and Finn, now looking out the window, noticing the commotion outside for the first time saw Burton flag one of the ambulances, show his badge, and hop in as they drove off.
"Damn, Stein is one of our finest and has never even touched a case dealing with the Mob in the department, why would they kidnap him?" questioned Walton
"I don't know why they would kidnap a Detective all of a sudden... Wait, Stein, that name sounds familiar..."
.....
In a warehouse, Detective Anthony Stein was tied to a chair. Badly beaten, burn marks, and bleeding, Stein sat in silence, hearing the far off discussions of his captors at the other end of warehouse until finally Kelly, Connolly, and a dozen or so other thugs approached the tied up Stein, one of the thugs was holding a telephone, while another was holding an extension cord to make sure it ran out to where they were holding Stein.
"Boss wants to talk to you, wanted to make it personal..." growled Connolly
"If he wanted to talk to me, why didn't he come down here himself, or better yet, why didn't you move the chair I'm strapped to closer to the phone rather than get a cord for the phone?" panted Stein with his one functioning eye
"The Boss is currently working on something else and can't risk being seen with you, plus your a liability he's glad he finally found... Also, if we brought you to the phone, your voice might be heard through the walls of the warehouse, a risk we can't take right now..." answered Kelly smugly
As Kelly finished, the ringing ceased as the dial tone indicated someone had picked up the phone on the other end, Ryan O'Connor was listening as a thug forcefully put Stein's ear to the receiver...
"Anthony Gotthardt Stein... I finally found you..." sinisterly spoke O'Connor
Stein froze in fear... He had not heard this voice in a long, long time...
"You thought I would forget you? I take your silence as an insult, so let me remind you... 1918, Alfons Stein came to Ireland after fighting in the Great War to escape a war torn nation and fell in love with a British National named Emily Blake living in Northern Ireland at the time, eventually having you that following year. Your foolish father worked with myself and to help fight the Unionists so we finally achieve independence... I bet you remember my voice from the many times I visited your home in secret back then. But as you know, in 1924, I revealed my true intentions to your father, how I planned to rule Ireland from the shadows and wanted him as my right hand man, you know wha the did? HE TURNED ME DOWN! So, I burned him and his whole family to a crisp! But apparently, he got you and your mother out of the burning building, and knowing I would come after the both of you, ran home back to London with you in tow. With your father and his bloodline gone I thought I would never have to remember the betrayal I felt that day ever again. But would you believe when my boys smuggling guns in 1942 tipped me off to a popular case from three years before of a strange German Detective solving a case involving a hellhound? I doubted it was true, but as my men continued to battle Gunnarson, and I finally saw you in the papers after the Drugg incident, I tipped off my allies in the Free Ireland Movement about the German Traitor's son still being alive, and would you know it Darcy and Kate went out to kill you... I'm surprised you never pieced it together Detective about why a sudden case involving Irish Mythology sprang up out of nowhere? Too bad I didn't account for Darcy's incompetence... But I'm making up for it now by tying up this final loose end..." spoke O'Connor menancingly
"What... What will you do now then, kill me?" said Stein as he asked between his breath
"No no no! That would be a waste of perfectly good bait! Plus I want to make this as long and torturous as possible! sins of the father and all that... Well, I have plans I need to take care of, so I'm leaving you in Kelly and Connolly's hands, hope you enjoy their brutality, slán!" said O'Connor as he hung up the phone. Hearing this, the thug took away the receiver as Kelly punched Stein right in his busted eye...

Walton and Finn, slightly shaken by what had happened, now realized the importance of the assignment before them.
"We have to figure out where Stein was taken" Walton said.
"Agreed; I can only think of a few places where he'd be taken, but..."
"What?"
"It's more a question of who. If I could just figure out who was behind the kidnapping then that could narrow down the pool of suspects and places I know most everyone under me so bring up those files again" Finn suggested.
"Right" Walton said as he flipped through them, then came across...
"That's right. Lochlan Maguire and a couple buddies beat down Constable Brooks. Does this sound like his work?" Walton asked.

"It does... Maguire is one of Kelly's men so he probably has Stein, but I don't know where they could be..." contemplated Finnegan
.....
As Stein was continuously beaten, the only thing his mind could fall back to as he fought to stay conscious was how what O'Connor said finally answered his lingering questions...
'Something always seemed fishy about the Darcy case... It always seemed like a too perfect case for me, like they were luring me out... Especially if I had considered my own damn father's history! Calm down Anthony! Yoo need to keep sane or you'll lose conscious, and who knows what they'll do to me then...' thought Stein
"Had enough?" laughed Kelly
"Not... Even close..." panted Stein as Kelly continued to kick the Detective as Connolly watched from afar...

"Come on boss, let me have a crack at him!" Said one of the others.
"Can it Maguire! You did your part now let us do ours!" Kelly snapped back.
......
Walton and Finn knew that there had to be a clue somewhere... anywhere. With not much else to go on, they turned to the only evidence they had... the past cases.
"Guess we should go by chronology then. It's not much but figuring out motives could lead to determining patterns and perhaps locations" Walton concluded.
"I guess that's fair; we've got to work with what we're given" Finn noted.
"Ok, so that deal with McDonnell and shooting up the two cars... what's your side of the story?" Walton asked.
"To be honest I think he went a bit rogue there. The mob may be a violent bunch but we still got an order to things. Kills only go out when ordered to do so and something this big would definitely need Mahoney's approval."
"That all?"
"McDonnell works for Mahoney; but I doubt he's tied to this; it's not his thing. Would have just killed him then and there" Finn concluded

Meanwhile, O’Connor had been filled in on Detective Stein's current situation and, having hung up the phone, leaned back and sighed. He chuckled.
“What was all that about, Boss?” asked one of his grunts.
“Just another chapter in the chronicles of vengeance,” said the mob boss.
“So what’s the next plan?” another grunt asked.
