How did you come up with the ideas for the game? Tell us here!
GOD AND FARK DEVONSHIRE
The GOD started out as part of my love for acronyms. I eventually decided to incorporate it into the game. It started as the occasional background reference... I mentioned it as Salfraslatar's previous employer, for example. I imagined them as this shadow organization that was manipulating the other three (at the time) factions for unknown reasons. But after introducing Abaddon and a list of names I got off a random name generator, I stopped using them. I decided the game was getting too complex and I'd reintroduce them at a later date when I had a plan for them.
At the same time, I was frustrated with how Mary Sueish the colorfolk were becoming. I felt like they were becoming boringly OP. So I began coming up with a character to serve as a foil to them. The result was a character I called "the Optometrist". He had powers over light and color, and could use these powers to easily cripple the colorfolk. My plan was to have him work for Kendarboo and Lightbender, and have him appear in an arc where he took the powers of several colorfolk and they were forced to rely on their wits and acknowledge their flaws.
Then one day, as we were deep into the "summon the Horned One" arc, Tug asked me: "when are you going to use those GOD guys?" I panicked, and decided to bring them in straight away. As I was looking at the list of names I had made, an idea occurred to me: combine this idea with the Optometrist! I looked at the list and decided "Devonshire' was the most doctor-ish name, and history was made. Fark is sometimes called the Optometrist, and his light powers were combined with a power to be super convincing, and his current personality as arrogant know-it-all who's actually super polite and convincing when he wants people to like him was born.
QUINN
Quinn started out much the same way. I wanted the GOD to have a spy in all the other factions, and when I noticed that the random name generater had given me a Quinn, I knew what I had to do. Steal Eyes' stupid reference character and make her awesome
Quinn is actually a fairly bland character. She's got "basic Toz personality 2", which basically means she's quiet and acts emotionless and aloof, but wields great power (like Xex, Priori, Gralikow, Paincauser, Zul Shadowmend... this actually says quite a bit about me ). Luckily, I came up with an actual backstory and character trajectory for her too.
The whole thing in Steamlin where Harley Quinn Millie turned out to be her was a last minute decision. I realized that there were too many factions out and about, and wanted to absorb some of the smaller ones into GOD, so I came up with that to make Thomas Gold join them. Not super interesting, but still
MAN IN AMBER APRICOT
I think all the regulars know this story, but I'm gonna tell it anyway. In the very first game, Frank listed a bunch of colors for a scene where a bunch of colorfolk appeared. He forgot a comma between Amber and Apricot. Which wasn't a problem, except I thought Amber Apricot was an actual color and gave him a role, which became one of the most memorable scenes in 3WSR history. From there, his inflating head became a running gag, and even when the colorfolk turned good, I came up with a way to keep him evil as Brainiac, because I liked him so much. He's recently appeared again in early game 3, and I think him and Norrambus are exactly the kind of uncomplicated comedy villains 3WSR needs.
