LM Awards
LM has just begun its 11th volume, so I thought perhaps we could take a little time and dole out some awards and other stuff to the novels. Enjoy, and post your own thoughts below.
Best Opening
Honestly, the best opening we've done has gotta be LM8 ("Damn it all, I told you that was too much dynamite!") Such an explosive opening to an even more explosive book.
Best Detective
Well of course you have to give this one to Gunnarson. I mean, without him, LM wouldn't exist. Though you have to admit, Stein is a hell of a detective too.
Best Sidekick
Conrad and Johnson, Gent... they're some great sidekicks, but you've gotta give it up for Hartley. Despite a rocky start, he's managed to become quite the character, and heck, even solved his own case in the last volume.
Best Detection Work
Well, this is a tougher one, so I'm just gonna go with LM 9, because Stein was actually rather smart in that case. I know some will disagree with me, but hey, make your own awards.
Best Plot Twist
LM 10, hands down. Toz76 gave us a plot twist which caught me at least right off-guard, and damn was it a plot twist.
Best Antagonist
He may be gone now, but Dr. Drugg was a hell of a villain for Gunnarson to deal with... can't give anyone else this title.
Best Ending
Gotta be LM 9. It was hilarious and really felt like an ending to a mystery story.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you...
Literary Mosaics BEST TO WORST
So, hope you enjoyed that, but remember, it's just my personal thoughts. Post yours below!
10. Assassin (LM2)
This one actually started out great, but, well... the ending was less than satisfactory. Not a terrible volume all told, but it could've been so much better... - 4/10

9. Empire (LM6)
It wasn't actually that bad a story - actually, it was pretty good. However, it is a rather mediocre volume considering some of our "great" ones, though it did bring about the crazy LM8, so that's cool. But yeah, not the finest thing we've ever written - but not bad at the same time. - 5.5/10

8. Murder of a Doctor (LM1)
It's our first book, and was one of the most fun to write honestly... however it's definitely flawed. Nonetheless, it still helped set us all up for the adventures to follow and is a personal favorite of mine. - 6.9/10

7. Tangled Webs (LM7)
It's just a normal everyday mystery... or is it? Depends on which ending you read... the first one was highly controversial, but an alternate ending helps give everyone the best of both worlds... hopefully... - 7.2/10

6. The Empire Strikes Back / The Underground Rises (LM8)
What started out as just a sequel to LM6 soon disolved into the craziest LM story ever and our second-longest volume. We went to some batsh*t crazy places with this one, but that actually helps it out, in my opinion. Personally, I had a hell of a time writing it... even if no one else knew what the hell was happening... - 8/10

5. The Tables Turn (LM10)
Our tenth volume is also one of our best. This one was an interesting twist for an LM volume, and it also had one of our best plot twists so... yeah. It was an all-round great story. - 8.3/10

4. Emerald Ideals (LM3)
Triumphing over the lackluster LM2 was an easy feat, but this novel really went above and beyond in that regard. A great opening scene, some recurring characters appearing for the first time, and of course a lot of action, this was where LM met Die Hard and really was the craziest thing ever until #5 and #8 respectively beat that. - 8.6/10

3. The Dullahan and the Banshee (LM9)
This was a Frank idea for another Stein novel, but unfortunately, none of us really knew where to go with it. So we made it our shortest story yet at only 40 posts long, and well... turns out, this one holds up really well actually. A great set-up, a great story, it's a fine Stein adventure and I for one think it holds its own against the rest of the novels. - 9/10

2. Blizzard of the Forgotten (LM4)
Yes, the Stein volumes are back-to-back here. What began as an effort to move away from Gunnarson for a bit soon turned into a really chilling murder mystery. It gave us Stein, and set him up really well, and a nice number of corpses with a murderer in need of revelation. Really, despite not featuring the usual cast members, it was a damn good book. - 9.3/10

1. The Past Never Truly Dies (LM5)
Even if I were to think of giving the top spot to another volume I'd probably receive some hate mail or something like that. This is our longest novel yet, at a whopping 24 pages, and while it can be a little confusing in areas, it works out, holds its own, and is our first true Literary Mosaic masterpiece. Can't argue with the masses, it's the best thing we've done yet. - 10/10
