Alright folks, remember the epilogue I drew up for LM8? The one that everyone hated? The one I said I had plans for?
I've finally gotten them all together in my mind. Here's what it'll look like:
The Case of the Doctor's Plans Michael Wargrave has been holding onto the plans he has retained from Dr. Drugg's days, but realizes that if one were to get a hold of them, they could do a lot of damage to London as we know it, let alone England and possibly, the world. Thus, he decides to enlist Gunnarson and Gent as witnesses and finally destroy Drugg's formulas once and for all. Before they can, however, someone breaks into his house and steals the paperwork. Now, it's up to Wargrave, Gunnarson, and Gent to team up and find out who's taken these plans, and why.
Well, guys?

I mean, if you had told us back then, I'd be all for it. But I was intending the scene I wrote earlier to appear in LM 13; primarily for time line purposes (March 1946, remember?)
Well, let the others weigh in, I suppose. What do you guys think?
And I should ask what else can you tell us? What else can you tell us about the case to peak our interest?

Like I told you, I had plans. Feel free to keep the scene, only transpose it over to LM (number TBD). I wrote that scene for a purpose, I just hadn't refined my thoughts on how to go about it until last night when I finally figured out the best way possible to use them.

But when will it be worked in? Gent retires in LM 18; unless the account is written after the fact

It isn't all that necessary that he be a policeman when it takes place, to be honest. He could just be a witness and a sleuth in the volume.

Another LM idea I had: Still Life In a pool of water lie the bodies of a man and his fiance. Adolf Gunnarson is drawn into the case out of a strange interest in one of the case's aspects, and sets out to find out how they died. As he goes along, however, the spirits of the pool seem to grip him, and memories of the past envelope him, drawing him nearer and nearer to the pool itself... one step away from jumping in... AKA, LM goes philosophical and psychological, and we get a Gunnarson backstory.

So about the next generation... should make a couple of those cases the focus of the next book that is free in the schedule

LM 25 needs to be moved; I don't think we'll be that far along by then.
Also- I'd rather just have Drugg's notes burned and get it over with; by LM 23 Drugg is a distant memory and there really isn't anything new or dynamic we can do with his drugs (which is why his notes were destroyed in the first place- he was basically a one-note villain whose only shtick was... drugs. At least in the original ending to LM 8 he was given closure and we could move on to the next generation of villains.
(sorry if this is the wrong thread for this- but it is very important that I bring this up)

Something about LM23 I just realized BTW
Who would steal them? Literally, beyond Davis Gent and Michael Wargrave not a single soul knows about the existence of those notes. Not even Gunnarson or anyone else in Scotland Yard knows about the existence of those notes. Meaning- there is no one with motivation to break in and steal them.

But he was an important character in the history of Literary Mosaics, and I wanted him to have one final stand, even if it was from beyond the grave, before the memory of him dies out altogether. Besides, LM23 is a long way off, so it's more of a throwback volume to our earlier work. And like we've said before, someone's post shouldn't be instantly disregarded. I created that epilogue with a purpose in mind. And regarding threads, the future schedule thread is locked, discussion for it goes here, hence the moved posts. I'll see it no matter where it's been posted. This is a good chunk of the plot of LM23. Wait and see.

With regards to LM25, it is meant to be a "flash-forward" if you will, to celebrate 25 volumes of LM. Hence why it's where it is.

It doesn't matter Eyes; even if it is a "god chunk of the plot" that doesn't change the fact that beyond Gebt and Wargrave, not a single soul knows about those notes.
Honestly, when Wargrave reveals the notes were "stolen" Gent (if still a policeman at this point) would just arrest Wargrave for the theft and take him to Scotland Yard, because, again, no one else knows about those notes.

But doesn't Gent trust Wargrave? Maybe he'd believe him. And even if he did arrest him, there's a Swede who believes the lawyer, and sets out to find the notes. I honestly don't know what the big deal here is. I've already explained my side. This is something I wanna do, and it's still a long ways off, so stop being a stick-in-the-mud, have some patience, and you'll see when we get to 23.

Yes, I get that's it's something you want to do
I'm just concerned is all. LM is one of our best works here, and I don't want to run the risk of "forcing" a sequel. If we do this, I want it to feel natural, the way a story should develop.
And about what you said with "someone's post shouldn't be instantly disregarded"
Well... that's literally what you did when you replied to my epilogue with yours. I specifically said that Drugg's legacy died that night, and then you did your thing.
I mean, I would have been fine with it, but the thing is you made it so abrupt. There was no transition or flow from the last most, it was basically a "his notes are gone, his notes still exist" deal.
Honestly, when the time comes to transpose LM 8, the only way I can see that epilogue working is if some sort of transition or bridge exists between the two epilogues, because, again, it's just so sudden and disregards what I wrote.

True, but it was sudden for a reason. You think it's all over... then wham! It's not.
I know you're concerned, but I've got it worked out so that it will work. Don't worry.

If anything, we just need some sort of transition so it flows better. You know, so that when you read it, the change in scene and revelation isn't so abrupt. I mean, for heaven's saje we don't even have a proper introduction to Wargrave, he just magically appears.
I don't know, maybe something along the lines of "but what Gent failed to remember, was that one last copy still existed... the copy that was Drugg meant to give to Blade, but Scotland Yard managed to intercept. The only saving grace though, was that at least it was in the possession of an old friend."
Or, alternatively, work in the short story from a while back and slide it in, between the epilogues. Either or will suffice

I suppose in light of my mix-up with Byrne, we should clarify this for going forward-
Which mine do we want the Blade Syndicate based in. I don't want to focus too much on Stein since this is a Gunnarson novel- I would argue that Gunnarson and Marlena come to the right mind, if anything for plot progression purposes.
But then after that, what can bring the story to 8 pages? I know I can do a few things with the assassins and the mob is the climactic finale, but what else?
For the sake of Checkhov's gun, I was imagining a scene where a couple of Blade's gang are captured by the underground and we get some development in that department, but I'll only go through with it if its something Toz is ok with.

Stein is going to the correct mine. I know what I'm doing, don't worry, you'll see soon enough.
