"found near where the pocket knife was located. We suspect that the killer who owned this one may have had an issue opening it and ended up cutting off part of his fingernail" he explained
"So chances are, if we can find the killer fast enough, we can catch him with a broken fingernail?" Gent asked.
"Exactly. So in theory, this Klein fellow, or any of them, should have a broken fingernail should we find them within the next few days" Walton asked.
"Ok, I'm putting my men on alert to keep an eye out for any associates of One-Eyed Jack" Gent explained.
"Gent, those plans I was asking about" Gunnarson said.
"Ah, yes, so what I decided was..."

"that we would get someone to infiltrate his group."
"I see."

"Wait, one-eyed Jack's group?" Gunnarson asked.
"That's right; now let me introduce you to the man that is going to do it" Gent said as be began gesturing towards the door.

He opened the door, and said, "This man is..."
But he was interrupted by the man, who, seeing the Swede asked in surprise, "Gunnarson? Adolf Gunnarson?"
"It can't be!" said Gunnarson.
"Do you two know each other?" asked Gent.

"Yes, we do" Gunnarson said, still surprised.
Gent was still confused. "How do you know Constable Dennis Callaghan?" He asked.
Gunnarson explained, "Well, it was about 7 years ago..."

"Huh?"
"Never mind. Anyways..."

"...Callaghan here has been working with a couple informants that are in One-Eyed Jack's organization. Now that we got a fair amount of intel, and the evidence against him, we're ready to move in and see if we can get him once and for all" Gent explained.
"How are you going to pull that off?" Gunnarson asked.
"Simple; the first step is to..."

"Do a police raid and blow up their building with dynamite."
"Huh?" asked both men together.
"Glad to see you're paying attention, now, the first step is to..."

"Make contact with the informants; they will escort Callaghan to One-Eyed Jack himself, at which point he will join the organization" Gent explained.
"Ok; then what?" Gunnarson asked.
"Once Callaghan is on the inside..."

But just then, Chief Gent was interrupted by a constable running frantically into his office
"Chief Gent! It's terrible!" He yelled
"Calm down Condtable; what's the matter?" He asked
"Murder committed in East London; The body was identified as One-Eyed Jack! The call came in not even 5 minutes ago". He said.
"What? Darn it, that ruins everything! Detective Greene, I'm assigning you to this case, get on it" he said.
"Right away sir" Greene said as he left with some officers.
"Not you Gunnarson, I need to talk to you" Gent said.
"What is it?" Gunnarson asked.
"Do you remember Dr Drugg?" Gent asked.

"Of course I remember him! He was perhaps my greatest foe yet. Why? How would he fit into this case?"

"Actually he's not really connected to this case, but there is another issue; That's what we were hoping you might be able to piece together. As you may remember, The Black Scorpion was effectively broken up a few months ago when we arrested their top members and associates. And Dr. Drugg, as you recall, was broken out of prison about a week ago" Gent said.
"Yes; but what do the two have to do with each other?" Gunnarson asked.
"Well, we found an eyewitness to the breakout of Dr. Drugg, who places four men carrying his unconscious body away from the prison" Gent said as he pulled out some papers.
"And...?" Gunnarson asked.
"Well, one of the people the sketch artist drew... resembles Anthony Wallace; the only lieutenant in The Black Scorpion who was not caught. We were hoping you might be able to figure out if Dr. Drugg had ties to The Black Scorpion prior to his imprisonment" Gent said.
Gunnarson thought it over, and gave his answer.

"I'd be happy too, but I feel that this case here comes first; if I can balance the time I will do both however."
"Splendid," said Gent, "now..."

"I think I have an idea where to start..."
Meanwhile, over in Dublin...
"Oi Finn, did you read the papers?" asked Murphy
"I did, gather the boys, we should be over there in a few hours..." replied Finnegan as he finished his bottle of gin, slammed it into the bar, shattering it, and getting up to leave the bar with Murphy and other mobsters not too far behind....
Back with Gunnarson...

Gunnarson was brought to the crime scene where One-Eyed Jack's body was found. Fortunately, Greene was a more pleasant man than Walton was; Gunnarson approached him.
"Well?" Gunnarson asked.
"One bullet, through his good eye" Greene said, indicating the body's position.
"This wasn't just some random killing... somebody's trying to send a message; we're talking about one of the Dirty Four here" Gunnarson concluded.
"Wait... aren't you working on that other murder now?" A confused Detective Greene asked. "And for that matter... what is the message?"

"It's escaping me at the moment, but think about it- he wasn't clubbed or beaten, or shot or stabbed randomly. He was shot, only once, in his good eye. Not the forehead, not the neck, but right in the eye. They wanted to deliver a message, but whatever it is, I cannot say at this moment." Gunnarson said. "As to why I am here... given that One-Eye Jack was the money lender Ronald Wright dealt with, I want to see if there are any clues linking this murder to Wright's" Gunnarson said.
"And...?" Greene asked.
"I'm not really seeing anything at this exact moment" Gunnarson said.
Just then, Gent, who had just arrived himself, came up to Gunnarson.
"Gunnarson, I thought it over, and I need you off this case" he said.
"What, why?" Gunnarson asked, shocked.
"Detectives Walton and Greene can handles themselves; but I don't have anyone to spare to look into Dr. Drugg. Please, I'm asking you- focus on the Drugg case; see if he had any connection to The Black Scorpion that would cause it's last lieutenant to break Drugg out of jail" Gent asked.
Gunnarson thought it over, and gave his answer

"Well, Gent, I would, but the thing is - Wright died pretty much in my arms. I feel that this is Providence telling me I need to deal with this case. I feel that Herren Gud has told me to find out Wright's murderer. I feel honestly that I should stick to this case for now."

"Well, then what are you doing here? I just overheard you saying there's nothing relevant to the Wright murder here, so shouldn't you be off interviewing his relatives or something?" Gent asked.

"As I just explained to Mr. Greene..." and Gunnarson explained.
"I see," said Gent.

"But in all seriousness Gunnarson, I NEED you on the Drugg case, if he starts drugging people again to do his bidding..." Gent began.
"I know, I know. Just give me one day Gent- if I do not have anything conclusive by then I will direct my attention to the Drugg case" Gunnarson replied.
"Fair enough" Gent replied.
Taking one last look over One-Eyed Jack's body and not finding anything out of the ordinary, Gunnarson turned around and hailed a cab.
"Where to, sir?" The driver asked.
